1000Mbps connection in Kenya available! Who knew?!

I was seated at ADD (UoN school of Architecture) some hours ago and I decided to use the school WiFi i to download some files. Well, I did an update from the Windows Store and to my surprise, the stuff said I was doing speeds of 200Mbps. Files from Google Drive were also doing 200Mbps since a 100MB file took me about 5 seconds to download. It is then that I decided to do a speed test. Ookla inasema 800Mbps download, 900Mbps upload. Fast.com ya Netflix inasema 300Mbps. Those speeds are crazy. In Kenya. Server : Zuku. Evidence:

It’s by Ethernet by the way.

It doesn’t mean a web application like google+ has 900mbps to give to you but the connection can afford user instances that total close to that. and Ethernet usually shows crazy network speeds as usual.

Even in Jkuat i have recorded 200+MbPs and 400mbps upload wireless eduroam in a crowded place so hii sio big deal…
Have these speeds in your house then we can talk

So thats about 100MBPS.

Its because the Ap serving you is connected to a Gigabit port(I.e Throughput is 1000Mb/s).

I think its because they are connected via KENET; bandwidth comes at a cheaper cost to member campuses. But yes, that’s FastEthernet LAN speed (100MB/s)

Local loop CDN. Try changing server from zuku to another country.

Too bad in our final years in campus it got more restricted … it was the best place to download games

I studied there, and its true, ADD has the fastest internet in East Africa. Maybe ya NSIS only can supersede that one. During them days, we could download a 1 GB DOCUMENTARY IN LESS THAN 30 SECONDS!!!

how much do they pay for those speeds though?

Maze, i dont even know

regular hardisks dont have that write speed in a regular machine.

government

write speed may range from 80-160 MB/S for a regular 7200 rpm hdd so yah its possible to download 1gb in less than 30s…

16k per Mbps

Assist me with login credentials za eduroam via inbox. I have been trying to login using my reg number but never succeeded.

ndio ujue jina langu ukuje kunitafuta JKUAT:D:D:D:D

Apana. Basi give me the right procedure juu ya naona vitu sielewi kama anonymous identity. Pia hotspots zake ni gani juu ya Technology House ndio hunisumbua.

back in the day at JKUAT you would count yourself lucky ukipata speed ya 100kps
