Authorities seized more than 16 tons of cocaine from a ship in Philadelphia, prosecutors say.

(CNN) — Federal authorities seized about 16½ tons of cocaine Tuesday from a large ship at the Packer Marine Terminal in Philadelphia, prosecutors said.

Members of the ship's crew were arrested and federally charged. The investigation is ongoing, said a tweet form US Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

It's the largest seizure in the district's history, the office said.

The drugs were found inside eight containers on a cargo ship, according to CNN affiliate WPVI.

A kilogram of cocaine sells for about $28,000, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime's 2016 estimate. At that price, sold by the kilo, the drugs would be worth more than $419 million.

Nobody will shoulder half a billion USD. Heads will roll, literally. The coke will be sold by the CIA to fund the war on terror.
drugs move from one territory to the other, each territory has it's own Boss, and if shit happens within a given territory, then the Boss of that territory, owns up.
That what happened, when drugs were confiscated on the Kenyan coast. A certain boss was paying hefty amounts weekly , to offset the losses.

Plot twist.
Could the dealers have intentionally planned for this?
Maybe another shipment escaped the CIA dragnet with 200T of the same cargo.
for those who've watched those drugs documentaries.... They used to plant drugs in one area to be busted, while another shipment passed...

Just like chess, you sacrifice one pawn, for another to pass...

Happens in the airport as well... One person is busted, kumbe kuna 3 others who've just passed...

I doubt. Law enforcement agencies have a large workforce to be totally distracted by one shipment. They can even run 10 sting operations simultaneously. Huko sio Kenya. Plus, a $419 million shipment is a little too big to be used as a decoy. If anything, I'd say they missed the decoy and got the real thing.

$419 million is too much money, even in the USA. The Nexus Sawgrass real estate project costed $90 million, and it is a monstrous project. Now imagine 4-5 times that.
