70% employment of locals in counties .

For once we have some parliamentarians who look beyond their tribal lines. In line with this I want to welcome my fellow diasporan @Purple what’s your defence .

Parliament has summoned two counties over controversial bills that seek to restrict 70 per cent of all employment in public entities and private enterprises to local communities.

The National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee said the Bills passed by Kiambu and Kilifi counties are “unconstitutional and untenable.

Under my stewardship, this committee will not allow counties to pass unconstitutional and divisive laws,” nominated MP Maina Kamanda said shortly after being elected unopposed to chair the committee.

Mr Kamanda directed his committee secretariat to immediately write to Kiambu and Kilifi counties to appear before Parliament the first week of January to explain why they were pushing for the bills that are contrary to the Constitution and National Cohesion and Integration Act.

Mr Kamanda said the committee will sponsor a Bill that will also go to the Senate to gag any other governor from enacting divisive laws.

“We have so many Kenyans working in America and Europe, UK and United Arab Emirates and they are accepted. Then you hear people in their own country being gagged that they can’t work in some place,” said Mr Kamanda. (Purple isn’t this what I was addressing to you about you being in America yet you want your own people in Kenya to live by different set of rules than the one you enjoy where you are?)

National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairman Francis ole Kaparo has declared the commission will move to court to challenge the controversial bills.
He said the bills are discriminative.

ETHNIC CLEANSING is the right word for the move. They practised the same ideology in a country called Yugoslavia in the 90s.

It is a really stupid move( ideology) if you think about it. You chase away “outsiders” from your local community, only for your tribesmen to be chased away from other communities where they have been settled.

Exactly what I told her . What if , I mean what if a county like Eldoret decides to chase away “foreigners” who will be the casualty… rather which ethnic tribe will be casualty ? People should think beyond noses

My partner was recently denied a tourist visa, so you have no idea what you’re talking about. America and Europe are not accepting of immigrants, especially from the 3rd world.
Do you know how many illegal Kenyans in the US live in constant fear of deportation especially in Trump’s era? So where did you get this idea that America is a haven for immigrants? By the way, before I was allowed to live and work here I had to follow a costly, stringent process and even after being a US citizen for over a decade, there’s instances where I’m treated like a second class citizen. What should I do? If I don’t like it, I have the freedom to leave! But I must follow American laws set by American people for American citizens.
Kenya is divided along tribal lines, there’s no denying it. We talk about how the mzungu erred in creating present day African borders. Yet we had a chance to fix things with the new constitution but we chose to have counties partitioned by TRIBE. I don’t know what else to tell you. We wanted to have counties and be able to chart our tribal destiny, regardless of which tribe had the Presidency. Wasn’t that the whole idea of majimboism? Therefore, the NCIC are delusional, hypocritical activists, and should cease from interfering with county affairs.
By the way I find it interesting you failed to mention Kisumu residents demanding that EABL hire locals over non-locals. I wonder how many non-locals are there in the first place. 30%? I don’t think so. Here’s the link…

30% is equivalent to 0%?
During this past election the MP of Ruiru town (Jubilee) won narrowly to an ODM guy. What the hell?! Excuse my language. It should have been a landslide win! Goes to show how rapidly the demographics of Kiambu are changing to the point where it’s becoming a swing county. Jubilee had 73-76% of Kiambu votes in 2017, in 2013 it was in the 80% range. Given the trends, someday Kiambu will become like Nbi 50-50 could go either way, yet no one complains when some peculiar counties are 90%+ NASA zones.

Actually it was featured on yesterday lunch news. Na ni wasapere wanalalamika wamesahaulika.

Our tribesmen have already been chased without the local authorities in those areas passing shitty bylaws

You are assuming that the political parties will remain divided along tribal lines. By the time Kiambu goes 50-50, will there be a NASA and Jubilee or a similar quasi tribal entity. Remember only recently Kibaki ran against his tribesman in 2002. And Raila is 72, what happens in his demise or retirement.

Its a stupid move given the fact that county funding come from all taxpayers.

Out of county jobs ?

But of course. Every 5 years we go through this exercise and without fail, thuraku movement all over the country lines up to vote for their tribal leader. We are talking almost 50+ years after independence. Same old, same old…

Any job & business. Theres no hard proof but i know of counties in western kenya who did headcounts of employees and they were looking specifically for ‘kikuyu’ employees

@Purple have you heard about the hullabaloo that has greeted the news that a Mr. Maina has been transferred to Friends School Kamusinga in Western in social media. Wawawa! its like a slander fest with others typing #resist. But its only fair game when the students get absorbed in Mt Kenya Counties after campus like a birth right. I have been to FSK Facebook page because of personal reasons. This Mr. Maina is moving from Oloolaiser High a school he lifted from obscurity when it was an underperforming District school to a giant which roars you should see parents jostling yo have their sons join there.

Such laws make sense in counties like Turkana where they could be used to encourage the local population to take up formal employment but not in Kiambu where 50% of the population is employed in Nairobi County. Kaba Kabogo

provide data

Following coz points are coming in hard and fast from both sides

Kiambu has a peculiar problem, the county is attracting investors and creating work opportunities but locals cannot get these jobs because of nepotism, favoritism and importation of workers who accept lower wages, now how else do you solve such a problem?

The biggest enemy of the Kikuyu nation is their very own greedy leaders.Who is Maina Kamanda in this context. Can we take a random county from Nyanza,Western and see how much they have embraced the inclusion.I will be shocked if the Kamau’s hit a 0.1% of the entire county jobs workforce.
Soon we are gonna have foreign chiefs telling us how to conduct our businesses right in our villages.

In central kenya you find people confidently speaking all manner of languages…how many kikuyus will you find confidently dispensing udaku in their mother tongue in Luo Nyanza today? People keep talking about #resist, but if this nonsense is implemented in every part of this country, they’re still the ones who will lose. The status quo will always be maintained.

I think they want it to be a taboo for a central Kenya resident to speak about it.
