Sylvia Wairimu Mulinge (née Sylvia Wairimu), is a Kenyan businesswoman and corporate executive. Since November 2018, she serves as the Chief Customer Officer at Safaricom, reporting directly to the chief executive officer of the telecommunications company.[1]
She was born in Kenya and attended St. Xaviers Primary School (1983-1990) in the town of Nakuru, and Mary Mount Secondary School (1991-1994) for her elementary and secondary education. She studied at the University of Nairobi, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Technology.[5]
Note, Food science is the science of nature devoted to the study of food; it is often confused with “food technology”. The Institute of Food Technologists defines food science as “the discipline in which the engineering, biological, and physical sciences are used to study the nature of foods, the causes of deterioration, the principles underlying food processing, and the improvement of foods for the consuming public”.[1]
This job (Chief Customer Officer) is not a job for a Food Science degree holder! It should be a BComm holder (even better a Chartered Institute of Marketing member)
Now even worse (or good for motivation) is Robert Collymore does not even have a Degree.
Most companies in kenya employ people to work in department they never pursue in their school life.Try check our banks and you will realize people who did forestry and natural resource are now bankers
Watu kama Sisi wenye tuko na Masters, I don’t see how it is helping me; maybe kidogo.
But, I seem to note women leaving a husband because she wants to scale the corporate ladder. Only that is not the best way you get a promotion.
Also today we start our first recruitment exercise this year. The way the wording for the job requirements has to change. No more specifics like “A holder of BComm, Accounting” or " 5 years experience".
I have seen many ladies opening their servers anticipating for a better pay and promotion but at the end they detect foul, lack or respect and even sacking after the boss is done and looking for a new catch.
Our education system will enroll students to pursue courses like chemical engineering but after graduating there is no lab or innovation centre where graduates can try a new products to launch. They will end up in industrial area kwa wahindi where he will pay them ksh 25k as they mixed ingredients imported from india.
Mshow, at my work place tukiona raia ya masters huwa inabidi tunamrudisha tu, however, we encourage the guys who are here already to start doing masters which is relevant to their jd.
Inbox if you are serious: nauje kama unataka kazi listen keenly, but if you want money stop what you are doing and listen right now … bcoz I have seen some of the people we hire get the years salary after 2 months and still on training legally. His KRA contribution even been enough to pay for a whole car! But, kama unataka kazi ya Accountant (a computer does that) ama Customer Officer a Food Science Degree holder can also do that. Na watu wa Masters (especially those who like having long detailed boring arguments) wa jaribu kazi kwa Parliament Buildings.
There is a shortage of Chemists globally. If you know someone who got a First class in Industrial Chem from K.U or UoN , there are many places I can refer them to so long as they have a clean crimminal record and are ready to move. Some places are remote though. There is also an exam.
