My problem with the guy is that his stories feel like they’re written by an American(right down to figures of speech) who replaced American locations and names with Kenyan ones. So the stories end up feeling like a movie that you’ve watched before except kina Njoro na Amina wametajwa huko ndani. We will never outAmerica Americans. But we can be Kenyans better than anyone else in the world.

Huku wazee wa kijiji hupeana equally immersive homegrown hekayas with such ease without having to say ‘My trigger finger’s getting itchy’ to ‘Amina’. If I want that, I’ll go read fanfiction or an actual book by an American author.
