Githeri media tried their usual games but the citizens shout them down. From trying to push survivors to narrate the present position only to be put back into their place. CaK reminded them of the laws in covering an active ongoing security operation. Media council send them their own journalism code of conduct which still remains a strange document for comedians turned presenters. They still invited self declared security experts to tell viewers of the terrorists demands and concerns forgetting our own citizens are still undergoing rescue in real time. So no, they didn’t restrain, they were restrained by others.
Look at the headlines. Editors still think sales is better even if its about milking a terrorist attack.

There was a media council meeting with all media editors, journalists, media owners and government institutions in multimedia university in 2017. It covered all aspects of live coverage of ongoing security operations. They know and they agreed. However githeri media are just being themselves. Next time let them send their presenters/comedians to the same because journalists in are not in control of the stations, its the comedians.
However Mediamax did very well, I remember they were very active in the discussion then and I’m glad they followed up the laws and advice of security teams.

Yes, I’m focusing on the exception. Githeri media have always been the exception, they are nation media, standard group, royal media and radio Africa group. The other 80 licences media operating in Kenya followed the protocol. Its very simple. Don’t say where the victims are, where the security officers are or doing, where the attackers are so that they don’t move/hide from there and lastly don’t show any of the pictures. Terrorists look for those pics as recruitment posters and propaganda. If they get none its was a total failure and the popularity they hoped for fails. Show the banners we are one or the pics of the brave officers. This was the best interview of the event, a survivor putting githeri media in its place. Don’t feed the troll. NPS gave out official numbers to call and additional numbers of Senior officers conducting the rescue at site.
