[SIZE=7]World Cup 2026 Bid: How African countries voted?[/SIZE]
On Wednesday, FIFA revealed that the 2026 World Cup will be held jointly by three nations; United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
This is after their bid easily garnered more votes than that presented by Morocco. The joint-bid received 134 votes while the Morocco got only 65 which translate to only 33%.
It was the first time that all the 207 Member Associations (MAs) were allowed to vote for a host.
How did Africa vote?
Out of the 54 affiliated countries in Africa, 53 cast their vote while only Ghana was absent due to the current corruption scandals that led to the disbandment of their FA.
Of the 53, 42 voted for the Moroccan bid while 11 helped the joint-bid to win. The eleven from the continent that voted USA-Canada-Mexico includes; Benin, Botswana, Guinea, Lesotho, Liberia, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Cape Verde and Sierra Leone.
