They will cause a major disruption, especially to sellers of appliances and electronics

I agree. Hotpoint and LG Opalnet will be the casualties. Wametupiga stick for a looong time.

Thought we were the giant in Africa

since they are mainly retail, they go by economy size - we are 5th in Africa, I think.

Actually we are Giant number 7.

Jeso

Wakuom banae

We want them sana. Guaranteed quality assurance and detailed products. But kuna shida moja. A kenyan amazon does not mean you can buy from US/UK amazon unless the item is on amazon global. and even with this, You’ll probably be looking at a big list of everything with international shipping options, but not necessarily international shipping options to your country. Also You won’t be surprised to learn that shopping internationally sometimes comes with strings attached. While you might have been drawn towards an international version of Amazon to try and get a decent deal, when you factor in shipping costs you might not end up saving after all. Also import fees will be included

If it reaches Kenya the prices will be super high compared na ata the global version coz of crazy taxes

Kenya wanawake devopers center kama ile ya Microsoft.
Amazon Web Services is a big business. Sasa pia government parastatals are going to lose ICT guys. Walikua wameponea first round.

AWS is a strict organization kama government parastatals but better pay especially for early and mid career. Parastatal senior developers in management won’t leave because of Government affiliated contractors and corruption.

We are the tallest dwarf in Eastern Africa.

From the above comments it’s evident you guys don’t understand how these e-commerce platforms work. Most of those items being sold on the Amazon website are not owned by Amazon themselves. There are Vendors who list their products. Amazon earns commission per item sold. And also remember Amazon doesn’t set the price. Each vendor sets their own price. It’s same concept as Jumia.

Unasema nini, Kiongozi? Kwa sioni the point of your “correction”!

They must have come in through the acquisition of souq

Doesn’t matter. Items will still be cheaper.
Biggest issue usually is shipping cost and I think it will be cheaper to ship from China to amazon warehouses in Kenya rather than ship from China to the US and then to Kenya

Hata hapa nairobi wako

I agree

That is an agenda that many people don’t know. Amazon was estimated to be a Global Retailer by 2030. By 2030 Amazon will be retailing across the globe and this will kill several small retailers leaving Amazon as a Giant Retailer.
We are also going to have Giant companies processing and producing food for the earthlings.
The same will be with a few Giant farms feeding the planet.

Rules will be there to prevent small retailers from prospering while Amazon remains on top. Jeff Bezos is a demon
