This asteroid almost hit the planet a few weeks ago but the astronomers says that it could present a risk to human race. The astronomers saw it flew past Earth using a giant radio telescope that is called Arecibo Observatory. With their estimate, the asteroid is almost 200 meters wide and 400 meters long. Astronomers warned that at its closest path, it came just 14 times the space between Earth and the Moon.
A planetary scientist named Dr. Edgard Rivera-Valentin from the Universities Space Research Association who studies the data from the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico told that the peanut shape came from the fact that it is a contact binary where the 2 parts of the asteroids could not orbit each other and fell back together.
He also added that Arecibo goes beyond acting like a fortune teller, we can distinguish these objects. The impact of the asteroid is unlike other calamity, it can be avoided. The data from Arecibo can be used by NASA to tell a planetary defense mission.
