Opera Software launched OKash, a micro-loan service, in Kenya.
Okash will give you a loan that is due in 14 days at an exorbitant interest rate.
They will call you a day before your due date to remind you that your loan is due tomorrow.
When you are late on the payment even for 2 days, they will start texting everyone on your phonebook asking them to tell you to pay your loan.
That is an infringement of your privacy and noone deserves to go through that.
Imagine them texting your boss to tell you to pay your loan of ksh 2300. It’s such an embarrassment.
They will go ahead and text some of your friends and your relatives just because you are late on paying their loan by two or three days.
If you don’t want embarrassment, kindly avoid okash by Opera Software.

I think you’ll need to give permissions in order to install and use the app.
Watu waendelee kukopa lakini wasije hapa kutulilia.

How many times will you be told that such apps have the capacity to process your data as they so wish? Ole wako

Haha. By taking the loan, you agree to their terms and conditions…

It’s very true! OKASH in particular needs to be avoided like nobody’s business. I already did!
The big problem with them (in case someone can’t see) is that they charge very high interest rates AND the term of the loan is very small (14 days!!)…
For instance, if you borrow 6k, you’ll only get 5160, with a whopping 840 as fees (origination, interest, whatever they wanna call it) and the loan is only for 14 days! You’ll see that’s an effective rate of 16.3% for two weeks! That’s crazy!
But the day I decided I’ll never deal with them is when I realized they were calling me (and I think that’s what they do with everyone)… Ati kind reminder, the thing is due kesho… Nigga who asked you? Am I late and do you think I forgot my obligations? It’s a very disturbing phone call! Now I’m learning here that they text errbady in your phonebook when you’re late… Wah! Is that even legal?

I don’t think their T&CS include involving third parties unless it is CRB.

My kid bro suffered the same fate sometime back in August. Myself, my mum and and sister received text messages from a number that claimed he would be forwarded to CRB upon failure to pay in time. Apparently he had put me as his referee when borrowing
Hehehe …kale kamrembo kenye unafurahisha pale loco na mzinga ya black and white kanaskumiwa text!!! Hio ni cork blocking 101

This is really funny. Peasantry is real. Unakopa two thousands only unashindwa kulipa ? Lipa deni bila kusumbua nanii.
