Big markets for vegetables and fruits but kenya is missing out why? Help get solutions.

Challenges facing the fruit and vegetable causing kenya to lag behind the large market (Eurozone) The main reason why china grew immensely was the easy channel to this huge exports that created so many jobs at the same time created revenue for the country. Who thinks has some reasonable finding and research to stop this. Lets creat market for our products abroad #kenyanproductsabroad

  1. Low incentives in terms of local market prices.

  2. High costs of inputs that include seeds, fertiliser, pesticides.

  3. Stringent international standards and market requirements, which are a barrier to accessing the export market.

  4. Post-harvest losses and lack of quality to improve consumer acceptance.

  5. Low availability of capital and limited access to affordable credit for horticultural
    farmers.

  6. Climate change, mainly unpredictable weather, and presence of pests and diseases. Kenya currently cannot export avocados to South Africa and some European destinations until we demonstrate that we can properly manage the fruit fly and false codling moth. Until we find ways of managing the citrus greening disease in oranges and the woodiness disease in purple passion fruits, the markets for these fruits will remain unexploited.

  7. Low adoption of modern farming and processing technologies by Kenyan farmers.

  8. Poor infrastructure: Inadequate storage, lack of pack house facilities and refrigerated trucks constrain marketability of horticultural products.

You’ll never export fruit to Europe even if you do those things. Serious countries pay farmers hefty subsidizes to make up for the capital investment in agri infrastructure and to ensure food security

I think the challenge is not really the cost but lack of knowledge. In my opinion if we can have more partnerships in the various stages of distribution, we can be able to exploit the market. I want to do the farming, I have all except the knowledge and,I’m stuck. Cant find partners

Where dd you get this information from want to knw if its creditable isikue you run to loose ppls hope and we are set to achieve our 2030 vision.

What do you mean? There is a lot of challenge and what you have based your statement is only on capital. To be sincere with you patnership has no doubt created so many jobs in kenya but at the same time it has heart the countries cost of doin business. The knowledge part i think there you have not done your reasearch well considering we have so many unemployeed graduates who majored in agriculture and business. From my point of view thats not really the solution.

Why bother exporting yet the local market is not fully supplied? A visit to any grocer or supermarket shows a significant portion of fruits are imported eg oranges, berries, kiwi. So kwanza watu wetu washibe. Mzungu yake ni baadaye
