Blueband Margarine is but one molecule away from being plastic debate.

There has been an online debate this week about blueband margarine being a soft PLASTIC … and shares 27 ingredients with PAINT.
Something the maker Unilever has strongly refuted… It’s a very healthy debate considering most people have come to believe using margarine is not healthy… Personally I hate it…:D:D:D

This is the viral video that triggered the social media debate:

DO YOU KNOW …
The difference between margarine and butter?

  1. Both have the same amount of calories.
  2. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.
  3. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
  4. Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods. Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!
  5. Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
  6. Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

Now for Margarine…

  1. Very high in Trans Fatty Acids…
  2. Triple risk of Coronary Heart Disease…
  3. Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) …
  4. Lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) …
  5. Increases the risk of cancers by up to five fold…
  6. Lowers quality of breast milk…
  7. Decreases immune response…
  8. Decreases insulin response.

And here is the most disturbing fact…

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC…

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

YOU can try this yourself: purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)… it does not rot or smell differently… because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it… even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your tupperware and spread that on your toast?

RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS

There are still holdouts within the ‘scientific’ community, particularly those employed or funded by the food industry, who claim there is not yet sufficient proof that trans- fats are dangerous, and then cite studies that justify their position. This is the name of the game in modern-day ‘science’ where egos and money are involved.
However, most studies currently appearing in the literature support the idea that these chemically altered fats are harmful. In such cases of conflict, I always side with Mother Nature: she is much wiser than we will ever be!

Remember that most of this information about trans- fats has been known for many years, but processors have succeeded in keeping the issue out of the public eye—another example of caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) in the food industry.

Now that you are aware of it, the rest is up to you! Good luck, and good health!
:D:D:D:D

anything that doesn’t melt at room temperature is a big NO.

Blueband ni plastic
Sukari ni mercury
Samosa ni paka
Sukuma ya sewage
Pombe ya kariobangi
Kuku za ARV

Na unataka kufikisha 90 years:D:D

As much as it pains me to write this, as draconian as Moi’s regime was, Kenya was not this fù’çkëd up to this level.

God help this country.

Margarine across the board is one step away from plastic, not blueband alone. Hata magarine ya UK ama states ni the same tging.

Bado tutakula tuu. U can avoid margarine all your life alafu unanyongwa na avocado unadedi

Yet wanasema dairy products are not healthy

What is room temperature in Toronto, Tabora for example?

The above post is a press release statement from Unilever NIGERIA.

Are ingredients any different from the one sold locally?

They aren’t especially for blacks.

These doctored products are full in Nigeria. Peddled by Nigerians themselves.

Tumelamba blueband since independence. Mtu atafte product line yake, wawache kusumbua.

Hiyo ya low fat hata mimi I stopped buying when I noticed it doesn’t melt hata in boiling water ya ugali!
Shida ya butter is one it’s expensive here in Kenya and storage ni shida coz you have to refrigerate it and then warm it so as to apply kwa mkate :rolleyes:

Some do vary

meeh ingekuwa inaua ningekuwa nimekufa long time ago…

I tried the classic blueband jana and ut melted… So i applied and ate away…

We are natural foods enthusiast so Blue Band is not in our list of foods to consume. To avoid embarrassing situations we don’t consume bread at people’s homes because most people will spread Blue Band on it. Dodging cancer is something we obsess about every single day

I saw them use palm oil to make blue band when I visited East Africa Industries (forerunner to current Unilever) . I don’t know when they turned to polymers but certainly the taste never changed.
