Brakes; Safety and Quality

With my ABS and Traction Control off, I took this chance to show the wife what happens when the wheels lock up under heavy braking. Long story short, after a terrifying practical lesson followed up by an hour of instructive theory with youtube videos for demonstration, she got the point.

I wish we would all teach the women in our lives to drive as good as we (claim) are.

ION, I recently had my brake pads changed at a cost of 7500. Dealer quote is 12K for genuine pads but that is a story for another day. After some small road trip over the last weekend, I noticed a crazy amount of brake dust on the rims. If that is an indication of their wear rate, I doubt I will have them for long. Previous genuine pads were seriously worn even though they always stopped the vehicle quite decently.

My lesson, cheap is expensive y’all; unless you like visiting the garage/parts duka as hobby.

Stop blubbering… We can’t read ua shit head. . What car is that? break pads have a worn out mark (usually a mtaro in the middle) and most Morden cars will detect a worn out disks… Plus disk pads dust on a car rims is normal after a journey.

Unasema nini?

Take your time to read.

Punguza ki Ombitho my fren. U are incoherent, Hizo ni pads za lorry or what?

You are the incoherent one. The post itself is clear and understandable.

Then do the honours and advise him…

By the way you owe me a bypass run…fix it up an get your braking in order. Then holler.

I learnt that the only genuine good quality pads in kenya are OEM only. And there is no car with OEM pads worth less than 6000 for a set for two wheels. these pads wearing out at 10000 km are fake. Genuine pads do 30k + km.

Kitu sipendi mcheso nayo ni mguu na breaks.toyota kenya haraka sana

Ongeza steering hapo pia. Anything concerning the wheels, braking and steering system are what Gavin Bennet calls ‘safety critical’ parts. If they fail the car will not only fail to run as desired but will have an accident.

Are cv joints a serious issue and who would give me an estimate of how much they cost.

For those like me with senile contraptions, be careful where you have your brake pads rebonded.
A chunk of brake meat fell from this brake pad and resulted in a good scouring of the disc.
Varsani Brake Linings do a very decent job.
