Canada Atajua Shainaman

Second Canadian detained in China as row deepens

Here is the deal: thousands of Western executives fly in and out of China every day to go and take care of business in the country none can do without. In the course of their dealings, many have greased palms and cut corners. Almost all are culpable because it’d almost impossible to do business in China without ‘help’ fdrom local fixers. It will take 5 cases involving such executives to wake Canada up and make it realize that it’s folly to get mixed up in Drumpf’s stupid trade wars.

I’m following this saga keenly

It was confirmed on Thursday that Michael Spavor, a businessman, had been detained in addition to former diplomat Michael Kovrig."

For too long, the USA has determined the diplomatic agenda for others. When they want to start a war, they go and mobilize the UNSC and ‘allies’ to remove a Saddam or Gaddafi, using false pretences if need be. This time, they took the jealousy-driven war against Huawei/China to Canada. What is
Trudeau to do if there are grounds on which the arrest of the Canadians are based? What’s good for the goose, …

“Far from being secretive, Michael’s work was open for all to see, Chinese officials first and foremost,” he said. Kovrig did not do anything to endanger China’s national security, either as a diplomat or at the ICG, Malley said.

U.S. prosecutors accuse Meng of misleading multinational banks about Iran-linked transactions, putting the banks at risk of violating U.S. sanctions. Meng, who is the daughter of Huawei’s founder, has said she is innocent.

Potentially complicating the case, U.S. President Donald Trump made comments this week that legal experts say may have undermined the U.S. basis for extradition.

Unfortunately, Canada has nothing to gain from effecting the arrest other than looking ridiculous

Most western countries havent accepted yet that china is a powerful country and they keep treating it like its the third world country it once was

Exactly!

Even worse is the idea that the USA does not know what to do next, now that they have such a high profile captive. In open court, they must prove the crime beyond reasonable doubt and also show that that she is personally culpable. The arrest has other implications: will they arrest her father or other senior executives whenever they set foot outside China? What about countries like Kenya which openly trade with Iran? What about the Dutch?

The Netherlands was formally one of Iran’s leading trade partners in Europe. At least 65 Dutch companies have economic ties with the Islamic Republic. In spite of economic sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union, Shell, a UK-registered Anglo-Dutch oil company continues to buy billions in crude oil from Iran each year.[5]
