Car Import Duty Calculation

Hi All,

Does anyone know the formula for calculating import duty and levies for importing a car into Kenya, including agent fees. I have tried calculating from different online websites, but I get different result and what agents are quoting are just outrageous.

Erick

There’s a valuation excel document along with crsp document on the kra website you can use for duty calculation.
Other fees rely on the source of the car

Use dutycalc.co.ke then you can adjust the agent fees to whichever agent you find cheapest. The computation there is pretty acurate.

follow this,

na kwani crsp imepandishwa sisi watu wa shoebaru itabidi tupambane na hali yetu shait

Why do you need an agent to import a car yet you can do it yourself??

To clear the vehicle at the port I assume.

Share the vehicle make e.g. Toyota, model Prado, TRIM e.g. TX, Fuel and year+Month of first registration and we’ll help you calculate and let us debate here if anybody differs.

Do you know how whether the vehicle unit is a good year and/or a good month?
And the full details of the car?

If so use this workbook to calculate an exact price https://www.kra.go.ke/images/publications/Copy-of-NEW-CRSP---2019--Effective--25th-March-2019.-1.xls

For a rough estimate, angalia hapa>>>>> https://www.kra.go.ke/en/individual/calculate-tax/calculating-tax/car-import-duty

I would prefer to use an agent to avoid the hustle of dealing with kra, my issue is that I get different figures from several agents.

Actually, you need a registered agent to clear your goods. You can import directly but cannot clear for yourself.

Thanks for the links!

I also found this app on Google play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.ke.kenyacardutycal it gives same result as the KRA template.

Could you clarify what is a good year and good month? Those are totally new terms to me.

Thanks
