If it doesn’t arrive by 31st Dec of that year, then you’ll have to ship it back to origin. But, take note, customs check the 1st year of registration (which should be within 12 months of date of manufacture) and not the year of manufacture.

I have never quite understood the 8year rule.
The vehicle is inspected by QISJ an inspection body based in Japan that does inspection on behalf of KEBS. They do issue a certificate to show that the vehicle is within the KEBS standard quality. They do advise on the YOM against the 8
Yrs import rules in Kenya.
Jifanye kichwa ngumu uone gari yako ikifanywa scrap na KRA pale kwa port.

And BTW banks also follow the 8 Yrs rule when you want to use your vehicle as a security for a loan.

very correct. The Danger period when purchasing ranges from mid Nov to early December. Ships usually have expected dates of arrival. Chunga Sana zile hufika between 25th and 31st Dec. Generally they have always kept time but some years ago several guys lost their cars after an unexpected delay in the arrival of a vessel. Having had said that the temptation comes in because you tend to grab the very best deals at the very end of the year.

Kama siku zimepita ikiwa high seas (kwa ship) haina shida. The inspection and invoice will prove you purchased earlier and it was late due to situations beyond you. But kama imetoka huko ikiwa late and by the way most Japanese car sellers will not allow that unless ulinunua auction kivyako, then utaona siku mrefu my fren.

incognitus that info is not correct. The vehicle MUST land by December 31st or else it will be deemed as older than 8years and hence not acceptable into the country. I am sure of what I’m saying. And it has happened before. And the importers were not even allowed to ship them back or to neighboring countries. South Sudan and uganda
