Hi guys, id got a question… Is it possible to be a judge or magistrate immediately after ksl and how do the two get selected into the bench by judiciary… Is it by luck, merit or excellence in practice. I got a theory i got in my court attachment that most of magistrates and judges were bright/intelligent ones based on their handwritings in judgements

If you were serious about it you would know it’s judgments and not judgements. Further, there is a requirement for one to have at least two years post qualification experience as an advocate before applying for a magistrate position. For a judge’s position there is usually a 10yr post qualification experience requirement. The scoring criteria is often pretty straightforward but as it government there is a favouritism for persons from marginalized communities so even if you lead in the scores you are not guaranteed.
