Changing the 8-4-4 education system imefikia wapi?

The last time I heard, while he was the CS for Education, Dr. Alfred Matiangi had proposed a new education system aimed to replace the current one.

Of late I haven’t been hearing anything about it. Were the plans swept under the carpet ama?

Instead of focusing energies on the relevance of the education curriculum, someone is busy thinking of what universal fabric, colour and design students should wear.

It started this year 2018, it is being implemented in phases in the next 7 years as agreed with teachers and parents.

It started with std 3 pupils 2018.

anyone with a kid in in class or rather grade 1,2 or 3 can confirm that nothing is happening - I find it rather absurd that those practical units that were supposed to turn the system from an exam based to a more practical one are being conducted and tested in theory - the closest to a practical I have seen so far is my son singing and dancing to that ‘zigwenbe’ thing, and he told me the teacher actually plays that music from her phone to them for practicals.

My son is in class two and frankly speaking last term and this term have been a total waste.I have been having conversations with him and it seems the are taught random things just to pass time .
Hata vitabu za the so called ''grade 2 ‘’ hazijawahi fika.

The teachers are confused, the new system was supposed to be balanced theory or class work and other activities, now we have a scenario where after class work is done with in 3-4 hours per day the rest of the time they do not know what to do with the kids since the facilities needed for the other activities are not yet setup, and to be frank I don’t see the same being done anytime soon, there is no one to push through the system since they found it fit to rid the ministry of matiangi so we will slowly drift back to the 2 main exam based system.

And who the hell is Dr. Alfred Matiangi?

True, I have seen homework becoming more activity based. It takes some time for any system to shake off teething problems and to get everything in place including infrastructure

I find the idea very good, I don’t see much sense in an individuals life being determined by a single exam, many things can go wrong during a single exam.

The continuous assessment, exposing kids to practical subjects that account for half an exam marks on the other hand is much welcome, the problem is that I feel for such a drastic change we need a strong personality to drive the same and Matiangi was that, but now the fire has gone, you also have to remember there are many vested interests in the existing system (cartels) and they will do their best to make sure status quo remains.

I hope I am wrong but I dont see the new system being implemented
