Checki Maneno: Kenya Cycling Coming of Age

Our beautiful sport of cycling is steadily making progress and attracting bigger corporates to sponsor it. Safaricom have thrown their weight in cycling with sponsorships with bigger kitties and organization.
The last time trial of the year was held last Sunday and Safaricom boosted the prize money purse and there was food, actual food of pilau, that has never happened before. It was aptly named Safaricom Mutarakwa Time Trial.
The last race of the year will be on 31st December, The Safaricom Rift Valley Challenge with some really appetizing price money up for grabs.
I’m happy of the steps we are making in getting corporates to adopt races and make it their own.
We have the Tatu City Road Race and the gods of cycling tell me, it will be better and grand next year, we also have Coca Cola Tour de Machakos and the Farmers Choice races
Viva Kenya Cycling, I’d urge you come spectate if there’s a race in your vicinity and see the talent in cycling

Hiyo Mlima Biretwo to Iten Sio mchezo boss.

We raced there earlier this year, it takes the spot as the toughest bike race in Kenya at the moment.

I can only imagine how tough it is. I use that route when driving from Kabarnet to Eldoret na gauge Ya temperature Ya gari lazima inyonji Kiasi on that hill.

Tuwekeeni calendar zinaweza sync with our Gmail. Then market the events extensively. That way when I’m checking my weekly schedule, the events are highlighted and remain in focus.

You cycle???

Not competitively, yet. But I do have many cheki maneno pals who do it.

What we have in the sport is a cult following and not enough buzz around the sport to take it to the next level.

I believe we’ll get there Mdogo mdogo.

Be posting a thread whenever you go out to ride…ata kama its just a leisurely ride. It will encourage others to take up riding as well

If it was safe enough try the arror-Kapsowar route and you will never regret it.
