I have seen critics say that China is out to enslave Africans through debt. I can't speak on that but I have seen the types of things China has built in Kenya in the last decade. The quality and speed at which they do their projects is helping us develop faster and faster. They also don't charge an arm and a leg for completion of their projects like others.
Why GoK did not give them the project to build the Kimwerer and Aror dams and Thwake? is hard to explain.
And the Chinese are not giving loans in cash to corrupt African leaders because they know what our leaders are like. You sign a contract and the engineers from China build what you want then you pay them through proceeds.
You wonder where Kenya would be today if our "developing partners" used the same strategy from 1960-2005 Kenya tungekuwa wapi

You can never develop by buying expensive infrastructure. It hasnt been done anywhere. Africans must learn to appreciate that. Todate, there is no country that has made it out of poverty without selling high value end user products. You cannot become wealthy by buying cool stuff.

Lakini ndio poverty iishe faster kule mashinani quality roads must be built fast and cheaply. I'm not in the engineering field so I don't know any local company that builds world-class roads. I remember Kirinyaga Construction used to delay a project by years. Have they improved? I haven't heard of them in years

this is a very strange thing to most bonobos .They think development is shiny new roads and that is why you always see politicians launching this and that everyday

Rural roads are a basic input into production. Tell me which rural roads contractors are building? All I hear of are mega highways for urban consumers living in glorified ghettos.

The way (some of) this deals are/were negotiated, where the highest bidder (in some cases) ends up being awarded multi-billion project tenders may result into a debt trap.

But the Chinese, in my opinion are 10 times better than the WORLD BANK and IMF...

WorldBank conditions are stringent AF. They dictate terms ranging from propping up dictators, interest rate caps to commodity prices(from minerals to agriculture... Tea, coffee, cocoa etc shiet is f'd up in Kenya and Africa because of Worldbank/imf policies)

Lakini, they (China and the West) have a "Win Win" approach when it comes to fucking up third worlders... If you pay, they win! (get interest payment) IF you fail to pay. They still WIN, either by jewing you into an unfavorable contract (like dictating a low for price coffee and tea, and still dictating a very high intrest cap to the same farmer) or taking an asset (kama exclusive rights to Mombasa port, in the case of Djibouti and Sri Lanka to name a few)

Deni =win,-win situation to the lender. Dawa Ni kulipa

Nobody needs or wants cool stuff in Africa. What people want is an avenue to benefit from World commerce like everyone else. It is against natural justice for poor Africans to pay 10 times what the developed world is paying for goods simply because the continent lacks good infrastructure. China is the biggest producer of these goods, and the West is enjoying high standards of living thanks to Chinese efficiency in production. By helping developing nations acquire infrastructure, the citizens reap the benefits of global commerce while China gains new markets for its companies. That looks like a practical solution that benefits both parties.

What your definition of development.I don't count good road build using a loan development.development means growing the economy for the betterment of common mwanaichi.I country like kenya that can't feed itself is a poor country even if it has the best infrastructure.
