Civilization is Bloody and It Changes the Mind

If civilizations were a ship and civilization an iceberg, African civilizations have not yet hit the iceberg. But they are on the way. The developed nations hit the iceberg a few years ago. And hitting the iceberg of civilization is tumultuous. It is bloody and vicious. The ship rocks violently and many passengers die. Many drown in the sea as they try to escape, and many slay each other in panic. In the confusion and fear, an outbreak of wars and revolutions occurs, and world powers emerge. Mass panic and fear causes more deaths, but births strong-willed and civilized survivors. Survivors emerge stronger and united. They gain a better understanding of the world and they pass this on to subsequent generations. Of course a few of the survivors include those who slew others and cowards who wanted to jump ship.

The scramble for Africa caught Africans unaware during this tumultuous period. Africans were not united, were poorly armed and were mentally unprepared. They had not gone through what the developed countries had. Their ship was attacked and passengers colonized by armed pirates. They were forced to abandon their ways, their beliefs and culture. They were taught the colonizers’ experiences and language, at gun point. It is a fact that experience is the best teacher; you cannot teach experience. Africans learned the western culture out of compulsion, not out of experience or choice. They were forced to abandon their beliefs and culture. The culture they adopted was not inborn. It was imposed. It was fake. It was new and strange. It bred a severe inferiority complex in Africans. The African lost his roots. He was blinded and his leaders blinded too. He is still looking for his roots. Roots that were severed. Nonexistent roots. He is chasing the wind. Running in circles. And he passed down the fake culture to subsequent generations. Generations of angry, black, loud, intelligent, but headless chicken.

The African ship was commandeered and steered toward civilization. The passengers’ minds have been fed an illusion of civilization. They believe they have hit the iceberg of civilization, but they have not. The civilization that the African thinks he has attained is just an illusion. His colonizer’s illusion. The wars and revolutions in Africa are a result of a false illusion of civilization. That’s why they don’t birth significant change. That’s why corruption is rampant and acceptable.

The ship is approaching the iceberg. The real iceberg of civilization. Real civilization. And upon impact, the African will experience real evil first hand. Real wars will break out. Real revolutions will rise. The weak will try to run, but they’ll drown. Many will slaughter one another in panic and confusion. Hopefully, through the survivors, a stronger and united Africa will emerge. Minds of Africans will be roused and they will open their eyes. They will see that tribalism and other –isms are a whip that politicians use to recolonize them. They will realize that national borders are a tool that the colonialists use to exploit colonies. Africa will emerge with stronger values and a better understanding of and respect for life.

Only then will Africans understand the true purpose of law, make laws beneficial to themselves and their land, and understand the value of life and internalize the cost of civilization. Only then will the African understand that a government is a mental institution behind which evil men can hide. Only then will Africans open their eyes. Only then will they obtain the wisdom to be able to see the value of good leadership. Only then will the roots of the African regrow.

Until the African ship hits the iceberg of civilization, corruption and human rights will remain empty, incomprehensible words.
