Clinical officer

To the birrionairs in ktalk, my younger cousin is having it hard distinguishing between what a clinical officer does and what a doctor does in a health facility. My explanation to her has been that it’s the certificate that’s different one is diploma another is degree. She genuinely does not seem satisfied with that explanation. Could a talker help me explain it better. I honestly know more about the life and times of the great Akuku danger than what medical practitioners do in hospitals.

You more fool than your cousin:D:D:D

If you were keen you would realize I admitted my foolishness.

There is also the spelling difference. umejaribu kumshow hiyo.

clinical officer ni chief wa manurse, they refer themselves as doctors.

I thought its the potential to advance and also the responsibility/risk that separates the two, if we are looking at a gp I doubt there is much difference in terms of their day to day work, in kenya some nurses work especially those at heath centers overlap with some doctor responsibilities.
when growing up I remember some subordinate staff at health centers were trained to give injections, take bp, do some wound cleaning and stitching, and also sit in to listen to wagonjwa and give diagnosis and a treatment plan.

Even I can treat you. Me is a doctor

CO anasoma miaka tatu halafu aanze guthokoma. MO miaka tano na anaweza shikwa arudie miaka Ka tatu. Asome 8 years. Afanye CO kama ako na haja ya pesa.

@luther_12 was a CO, but referred to himself as the chief doctor in this our village

Clinical Officer is a health professional trained at Bachelor degree level, while Registered clinical Officer is diploma level trained. Obviously these two cadres are no match in terms of scope of practice to a Medical officer- commonly referred to as ‘Doctor’. The medical officers’ degree in medicine and surgery MBChB is more extensive and superior to Bachelors of Science in clinical medicine and surgery. Actually in most hospitals, clinical officers do outpatient consultations and minor surgical procedures, and work under direct supervision of medical officers. In my opinion, wacha cousin yako afanye MBChB. It’s expensive but it’s best for her.

Pure lies hapo kwa C.O

I don’t think so.Nurses go through more extensive education and the entry requirements to do nursing is higher than than clinical medicine.

A clinical officer is neither a nurse nor a full-fledged doctor… Doctors normally have two degrees in one during graduation time… Surgery Bachelors and Medicine Bachelors (Medicine B. and Surgery .Bachelor, MB. Ch. B or in India MBBS, etc)… I am sure we can start from there before we talk about the individual roles, which obviously implies that the clinical officer (at degree and diploma level) are obviously less trained for both medicine and surgery… But then in Kenya we need many more clinical officers than the medical doctors, where the COs can attend to the patient in the first stages and refer them to the specialized MO’s for further advice… Those who have been brought up in rural areas know that the clinical officers are the doctors there and have managed to deal with the basic medical requirements there only making referrals to doctors in higher level medical facilities.

In Kenya, we sometimes “over-train” people who end up doing mundane tasks for the qualifications they hold… in all career lines… I have seen workers with B.Com Accounts and MBAs doing clerical work which would have been perfectly done by CPA IIs!! Many Architects doing droughtsman’s jobs, Professors teaching undergrads, PhDs working as junior managers in small companies, etc

Clinical officer can perform circumcision, a doctor can perform circumcision and more advanced surgeries.

In some other countries like Malawi clinical officers do what doctors do in kenya

Hao clinical officers wa Malawi ndio wamejaza PEEP kwa groups zote za telegram?

PEEP ni?

It is a penis “enlargement” oil sourced from Malawi. It is being advertised in many hookup channels za telegram, and the message is it can only make it grow longer by 3 inches. Kenyans, very gullible people
