Cloud Hosting || digitalocean.com

Hello fellow villagers,

Anyone here with experience on cloud hosting sites, specifically digitalocean.com ?
How are the services especially for a website that receives 5,000-10,000 traffic per day, am finding this Dedicated Servers being exaggerated interms of pricing.

Saidieni tafathali before i migrate two websites to cloud.

Digital Ocean is very good in terms of price and reliability

go for it, digital ocean is a great service provider

sema admin, habari ya masiku?

Thanks am on it

digital ocean is good. lakini its not simple vitu kama mail you got to write your script ama you outsource. Again digital ocean needs someone who knows bash for management purposes. hakuna automation mingi.

I think the advantage i have here is that i normally don’t use the webmails on this domain, the otherside is that am quite familiar with some environments like CLOUD9 ( https://c9.io/ ) having being working for a client.
My major concern was where huge traffic and resources involved. The said site currently runs on wordpress and exporting it to digital ocean will not be a hustle. Its just that i needed such advise.

Thanks man

I use both digital ocean and linode. They are both OK and I have never experienced any (major) downtimes. I use DO for my websites and linode for servers for VPN etc.

just know that DO will give you the option of creating a VPS and you can manage it yourself, install any software you want and you pay as you go. You only pay for what you use. Try creating a droplet with the 512mb/20GB option and monitor your sites, you can upgrade at any time.

If you have a site built in PHP consider using PHP 7 as the runtime, the speed is terrific!!!

For mails it’s recommended you use third parties like Microsoft, Gmail or Zoho… it’s not worth it to create and run your own mail server.

I host my emails on my own server(s) in linode. I find it much easier than using an off the shelf solution.

You can also try Amazon aws, they have a free trial period for new users.

aws can be a bit pricey but their sla’s are good

There is also Alibaba cloud.

Some dedicated servers come with a pre-installed management system including mail. If the application has default script for mail no other installation is required except a password or a username. A completely configured mailer software. It just works.

Pale DO unaspawn an empty server, an empty Linux VM, and you start installing what you want.

I have used angani myself and found them to be low latency and good customer service.

The site currently runs on VPS, its a wordpress website with a traffic range of between 3-10k per day

Digital Ocean will fit your needs perfectly.
