Codemoran

Technology is the only sure way out of poverty. This statement has been confirmed time and again, and we can see it now as chinese technology is slowly but surely taking over the world. However,we all know this is a double-edged sword in that,on one hand western hegemony over global consumerism is being broken. On the other hand, the chinese are like a swarm of bees. They buzz around an empty site and you have a railway or skyscraper in a few months.
The point of this anecdote is; what can we learn as Kenyans( Africans) from the global power shifts happening right before our eyes? Unity.
If we unite as Africans and as the black race we can share expertise and build an advanced civilization. We can also end the propaganda that East africans have the lowest IQ.
Codemoran is an initiative that was started by my friend and I. It aims to teach Coding in Kenyan languages.
In future, our children will have no use for mother tongue as a form of communication, since English has proven to be pretty simple and straightforward. However, this will mean that all their technology will be western oriented, and western countries will be put first.
This is why up to now there is no Google voice in Kiswahili, Or Alexa.
Yet there’s Arabic and Indian. We can say it’s Racism, or we can do something about it.
China and Russia code in their own languages. Even North Koreans code in their own language. This is what makes all of these states a threat on the internet. They can do anything and a westerner won’t understand shit.
To finish up my long rant, we have started on Masai language. We may need assistance since this problem might be easier if opensourced.
Imagine a defense system that requires authentication in 42 different languages. It would be probably unhackable!
Always remember: Whatever they build, We built it first.

Noble thoughts. Please implement it and add your name to the immortals.

Negros are homo habilis while Europeans and Asians are homo sapiens.

can you bring a russian, arabic or indian code we see?

SMART thought let me applause you for that also for the codeing classes that you guys offer ziuitwa coding bootcamps. Sa the big question ni how advance is your coding skills and do you have this classes for free to spread it to all kenyan fast or at a verrrry cheap price and do you have offices in every county. Btw jubilee government’s strong pole ni ICT advancement in every county go talk with the president if you can get a chance they have assigned a certain amount of money for this you can even have it included in primary schools. visit the fablab nairobi their page in fb i think the ceo there was issued with 35million to be issued to youth for advancement of IT. You got some brains you need to expound on it. if you think the idea of having coding in our mother tongue is a great idea forget about the money just do that mpaka mwisho you will be our new Mark Zuckerber or Elon Musk. Jaza kenyas online news with small kids in every county in kenya are learning kiswahili coding …bro you are the next future of kenya. Niujazika how kenyans really don’t know how they have rely diverse minds and think sharp and come up with ideas that others really lose out in but shida inakujia mkenya na greediness yake ya pesa hafuatani na those great minds anakimbisha pesa. Najua wakubwa will argue sa nikimbishe nn basi na nkule nn…as those ppl who came up with all this great invention where it all started and walikulia wapi.

wueh!!!

You wanna code in maasai yet you probably can’t implement a simple finite state automaton.

Most programming languages are in english. lets take for example this list in python

nyinge_luo = [[ "otieno", "Onyango", "Omondi", "onyango", "opiyo", "ouko"], ["Akinyi", "Atieno", "Anyango", "Amondi", "Apisi", "Akech"]] nyiri = nyinge_luo[1] yawuyi = nyinge_luo[0]

Assuming you want to print the variable “nyiri”

print(nyiri)

so my question is, will this print function be translated to Maasai? or in my case Dholuo which I have used?

this is a question we’ve been asking ourselves too. do we create a new alphabet which can be used across all the communities?it might have to be symbolic so as to carry a similar meaning for everyone

Do you want to first teach coding in mothertongue yet guys need understand the basics first. Ama unaweza kuelezea mtoto what a variable is in that language?
Just concerned…and if you need someone to teach a few you can ping me…i can do that for free.

One question, do the merits of coding in mother tongue outweigh those of coding in say English? Given the vast amount of learning resources available in English?
I’m supportive of promoting African languages and culture, and I know we need to do more to trust in our ability to build great things. But… doesn’t coding in African languages run the risk of re-inventing the wheel?

That is what I was trying to figure out  and i think it is!

Smart thought.
