Corporations today are more powerful than governments.

It’s not a new phenomena. The British East India company was so powerful it used to colonize nations on behalf of the queen of England. During its 200 years of operation, the East India company colonized most of Asia including India, Afghanistan, Hong Kong and most of South East Asia. They had their own armies and at some point even became more powerful than the British govt. This company had it’s own armies and pepertrated massacres on a horrendous scale.

Cecil Rhodes owned a company that colonized the whole of Southern Africa. He dreamt of building a railway line from Cape town to Cairo. He was so wealthy that he was almost like a king.

The French and the Spaniards also had their own versions of powerful mega corporations. Today we see mega corporations with enough money to be ranked as super power nations. Most top CEOs are treated more like heads of state when they visit other countries.

Is it too far fetched to imagine that, just like witg other companies in the past, a mega corporation(s) could conspire to control U.S politics and foreign policies?

We have seen how George Soros controlled his puppet Obama with his policies and Arab spring.

U.S corporations today wield a lot of power in China. They have made the Chinese ruling elites overnight billionaires.

If apple wants to expsnd a factory, the Chinese army usually moves in with bulldozers and clears away any hoi polloi residing on the land Apple wants!

Today U.S CEOs are even appointed as “advisors” to Xi Jinping himself.

Hustorically U.S corporations first moved to sweatshops in Japan, then Korea, then Made in Taiwan and today U.S manufacturing is mainly done in China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and a few parts of Africa including Kenya.

When Trump started his trade war with China it wouldn’t be hard to see why the U.S corporates based in China are fighting back very hard via deep state maneuvers. These corporates have infiltrated right to the very heart of the U.S govt with a chain of officials at their beck and call. They even control U.S foreign policy nowadays.

The Queen of England, had to wrestle back power from the British East India Company, centuries ago. And it was quite bloody especially in India.

Here in Kenya we have seen the likes of Jimmy Wanjigi attempting “state capture” the govt. on national projects e.g the SGR. Wanjigi actually felt that he was more powerful than the President of Kenya himself!

So this is a wrestling match for Trump vs the corporations. Who will win?

Look at how U.S corporate elites are welcomed in China. The CEO of Apple could be lead to feel that he is indeed more powerful than Trump. Bill Gates for instance could feel that these guy Trump has to leave. Atoke aendee. And he indeed has the financial resources to perform a coup!

SHANGHAI — Apple CEO Tim Cook and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday at an annual gathering of advisers to Beijing’s Tsinghua University business school.

Xi was speaking with business leaders and officials at the meeting, the state broadcaster China Central Television reported. Cook and Zuckerberg are on the advisory board of the Tsinghua School of Economics and Management.

The meeting comes at a particularly key time for Apple as it prepares to launch its much-anticipated iPhone X on Friday, amid hopes the anniversary smartphone can revive the firm’s sales in the world’s second-largest economy.

Tsinghua’s business school, founded in 1984, has seen scores of top Chinese and foreign industry leaders sit on its board, including the head of China’s central bank, Zhou Xiaochuan, and Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein.

Facebook’s Zuckerberg has also been very active in China, eager to get his popular social network unblocked in the world’s most populous nation, where it has been banned since 2009 and held behind the country’s so-called Great Firewall.

An Apple spokeswoman said the firm couldn’t “comment on Tim’s schedule and or meetings.” Facebook confirmed Zuckerberg was in Beijing but declined to comment on details of his visit.

In Kenya today if you are the CEO of Safaricom you do hold most of Kenya’s digital infrastructure in your hands.

A lot of taxes are paid via M-pesa.

Even police officers today rely more than ever on Safaricom to solve cases. Yes, you can say that Safaricom is indeed very poweful.

They are privy to many state secrets.

Wauuu. Very insightful.

Government in itself was never made for the many but the few who wield it’s main instruments ; Division of the masses, Theft (taxes), Brutality for order (military & police) and taking more than it gives back. All these niceness it has now are just by-products of the excesses it has achieved. Thieves are most generous after a large loot.

Businesses are efficient systems of fairness, creating value and advancing and they will rule this planet soon enough. They just haven’t been able to privatize security yet and whoever does that, opens the door.

Private armies are quite ancient :

Even British East India company which I mentioned above had its own private company army :

And today we have individuals who start private armies composed of mercenaries or former elite soldiers. A famous example is Black water today known as Akademi. They were contracted by the Bush administration in Iraq.( Jowie was supposedly a mercenary. )

Those are the pitfalls of capitalism.
Economic strength becomes concentrated on very few hands/companies/individuals. This is very scary, since who owns the money tell you to jump. And trust me, you will jump.
Economic strength inequalities lie with the rise of elitism(what the people call “the system” here in Vumbistan and “the deep state” in the US), where the action’s of the state must be first consulted to these people and the policies are done in line with their interests.

If you believe that Kenya has “cartels” similar to the massive corporations in the U.S why do you find it hard to believe that the U.S cartels operations in China are being affected by the trade war and therefore they are not happy with Trump?

These U.S corporations ideally own Chinese manufacturing. They have made billions possibly trillions of dollars in China. The Chinese themselves have benefited greatly from this arrangement. These U.S corporations have even established Chinese offshoot companies that use American engineering e.g Huawei.

Do you think that these U.S companies are happy with Trump who is demanding that they either come back home to the U.S or get taxed like foreign companies exporting to the U.S?

In short Trump is saying if you are operating in China then just move there entirely and stay there because you cannot manufacture your Apple phones in China and then come and sell them in the U.S at highly reduced taxes and compete with local American companies.

In this scenario there is no way Apple is be pleased with the Trump presidency.

This Trump guy is messing with their money. Is it unimaginable that they would conspire to kick out this Trump obstacle?

Of course elitism is everywhere in the world, including China too(statism or state elitism)
The problem with the situation the US is in with China is that it is a problem of their own making. The West have been using globalization as a tool for further exploitation and the Chinese were wise to use it to their advantage.
Capitalism of the US model enabled free mobility of factors of production, including labor. It’s why you read an American company can fund research by a foreign company(mobility of capital), can move to other countries(mobility of land) can encourage brain drain from other countries(mobility of labor). This is their system and it has been showing to work until now when there is a really rising competitor in the name of China.
And the situation is not as easy as Trump thinks. China is a really growing market for the West’s consumer goods. It is a fan of hollywood. A fan of NBA. A fan of Starbucks. So it goes both ways.
If companies were to be localized it is the West that will become the big loser. Not China.

Spot on! These corporations undermine their countries of origin at the altar of profits. They must be reigned in before it becomes a worse national security risk but they’re so powerful that Trump is having a difficult time going about it. The CCP tentacles are everywhere nowadays spewing propaganda especially in mainstream media. CNN should be branded as Chinese news network, it’s that bad.

I read this article in the NYT. It appears the US and China are basically in a de-facto Cold War. China is increasingly becoming the central flash point for the election. Now, Biden’s track record on this matter is scary. I’ll show you a clip—it’s obvious the guy has been bought off by the CCP. He’s nothing but a treasonous rat!

ps: my apologies for the long article!
U.S. to Expel Chinese Graduate Students With Ties to China’s Military Schools

[ul]
[li]May 28, 2020[/li][/ul]

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration plans to cancel the visas of thousands of Chinese graduate students and researchers in the United States who have direct ties to universities affiliated with the People’s Liberation Army, according to American officials with knowledge of the discussions.

The plan would be the first designed to bar the access of a category of Chinese students, who, over all, form the single largest foreign student population in the United States.

It portends possible further educational restrictions, and the Chinese government could retaliate by imposing its own visa or educational bans on Americans. The two nations have already engaged in rounds of retribution over policies involving trade, technology and media access, and relations are at their worst point in decades.

American officials are discussing ways to punish China for its passage of a new national security law intended to enable crackdowns in Hong Kong, but the plans to cancel student visas were under consideration before the crisis over the law, which was announced last week by Chinese officials. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed the visa plans with President Trump on Tuesday in a White House meeting.

American universities are expected to push back against the administration’s move. While international educational exchange is prized for its intellectual value, many schools also rely on full tuition payments from foreign students to help cover costs, especially the large group of students from China.

Administrators and teachers have been briefed in recent years by the F.B.I. and the Justice Department on potential national security threats posed by Chinese students, especially ones working in the sciences. But the university employees are wary of a possible new “red scare” that targets students of a specific national background and that could contribute to anti-Asian racism.

Many of them argue that they have effective security protocols in place, and that having Chinese students be exposed to the liberalizing effects of Western institutions outweighs the risks. Moreover, they say, the Chinese students are experts in their subject fields and bolster American research efforts.

Chinese students and researchers say growing scrutiny from the American government and new official limits on visas would create biases against them, including when they apply for jobs or grants.

The visa cancellation could affect at least 3,000 students, according to some official estimates. That is a tiny percentage of the approximately 360,000 Chinese students in the United States. But some of those affected might be working on important research projects.

The move is certain to ignite public debate. Officials acknowledged there was no direct evidence that pointed to wrongdoing by the students who are about to lose their visas. Instead, suspicions by American officials center on the Chinese universities at which the students trained as undergraduates.

“In China, much more of society is government-controlled or government-affiliated,” said Frank Wu, a law professor who is the incoming president of Queens College. “You can’t function there or have partners from there if you aren’t comfortable with how the system is set up.”

“Targeting only some potential professors, scholars, students and visitors from China is a lower level of stereotyping than banning all,” he added. “But it is still selective, based on national origin.”

The State Department and the National Security Council both declined to comment.

American officials who defend the visa cancellation said the ties to the Chinese military at those schools go far deeper than mere campus recruiting. Instead, in many cases, the Chinese government plays a role in selecting which students from the schools with ties to the military can study abroad, one official said. In some cases, students who are allowed to go overseas are expected to collect information as a condition of having their tuition paid, the official said, declining to reveal specific intelligence on the matter.

Officials did not provide the list of affected schools, but the People’s Liberation Army has ties to military institutions and defense research schools, as well as to seven more traditional universities, many of them prestigious colleges in China with well-funded science and technology programs.

The F.B.I. and the Justice Department have long viewed the military-affiliated schools as a particular problem, believing military officials train some of the graduates in basic espionage techniques and compel them to gather and transmit information to Chinese officers.

While some government officials emphasize the intelligence threat posed by students from military-affiliated universities, others see those Chinese citizens as potential recruits for American spy agencies. Preventing the students from coming to the United States may make it more difficult for the agencies to recruit assets inside the Chinese military.

After completing their graduate work, some students land jobs at prominent technology companies in the United States. That has made some current and former American officials wary that the employees could engage in industrial espionage.

Last year, Senator Richard M. Burr, Republican of North Carolina, who was then the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, predicted the administration would cut the number of visas going to Chinese students, citing the threat of technology theft.

Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, who now leads the committee, has sent letters to universities in his state warning about ties to the Chinese government.

Mr. Rubio has been pushing schools to cut relations with China’s Thousand Talents program, which has provided funding for American researchers — including Charles M. Lieber, the chairman of Harvard University’s chemistry and chemical biology department, who was arrested by the F.B.I. in January on charges of concealing his financial relationship with the Chinese government.

Asked about the Trump administration’s move to cancel the visas of some Chinese students studying in the United States, Mr. Rubio said he supported “a targeted approach” to make it more difficult for the Chinese Communist Party to exploit the openness of American schools to advance their own military and intelligence abilities.
“The Chinese government too often entraps its own people into service” to the Communist Party and its objectives “in exchange for an education in the U.S.,” Mr. Rubio said, adding that “higher education institutions in America need to be fully aware of this counterintelligence threat.”
Other Republican lawmakers proposed legislation on Wednesday to bar any Chinese citizen from getting a visa for graduate or postgraduate study in science or technology.
Trump administration officials have discussed restricting Chinese student visas over the past three years, current and former officials said.

In 2018, the State Department began limitingthe length of visas to one year, with an option for renewal, for Chinese graduate students working in fields deemed sensitive. Two officials said targeting graduates of the military-linked schools gathered steam after the F.B.I. announced in January that it was seeking a Boston University student who had hidden her affiliation with the People’s Liberation Army when applying for a visa.

F.B.I. officials said the student, Yanqing Ye, had studied at the National University of Defense Technology in China and was commissioned as a lieutenant before enrolling in Boston University’s department of physics, chemistry and biomedical engineering from October 2017 to April 2019.

While in Boston, Lieutenant Ye continued to get assignments from the Chinese military, including “conducting research, assessing United States military websites and sending United States documents and information to China,” according to the F.B.I. wanted poster.

The Justice Department charged Lieutenant Ye, who is believed to be in China, with acting as a foreign agent, visa fraud and false statements.

The vigorous interagency debate over the move to cancel visas has lasted about six months, with science and technology officials generally opposing the action and national security officials supporting it.

The Australian Strategic Policy Institute, a think tank, has researched the Chinese military-affiliated universities, and that has influenced thinking in the American government. A 2018 report called “Picking Flowers, Making Honey” said China was sending students from those universities to Western universities to try to build up its own military technology.

The study suggested that the graduates were targeting the so-called Five Eyes countries that share intelligence: the United States, Canada, Britain, New Zealand and Australia. In many cases, the report said, students hid their military affiliations while seeking work in fields with defense applications, like hypersonics.

Under the current Chinese government, Beijing has aggressively tried to combine military and civilian work on important technology, said American officials and outside researchers. That often includes tapping the expertise of civilian companies and universities.

“To some degree, U.S. concerns are driven by the assessment that Chinese companies and universities seem unlikely to refuse outright or could be compelled to work with the military, whereas their American counterparts often appear more resistant to working on military research,” Elsa B. Kania, an adjunct senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security, wrote in a report last August.

“It is also striking at the same time that some of China’s leading technology companies appear to be less directly engaged in supporting defense initiatives than might be expected relative to their American counterparts,” she added.

United States officials said the fusion policy also entailed sending military-trained students to American universities to try to gain access to technological know-how that would be valuable to China and its defense industry.

The Chinese military has strong ties to a number of schools with an overt military bent, according to the Australian think tank.

Less obvious to the casual observer are the more traditional universities with longstanding ties to the military.

According to the policy institute and American officials, those are Northwestern Polytechnical University, Harbin Engineering University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, Beihang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Nanjing University of Science and Technology.

Keith Bradsher contributed reporting from Beijing.

You have not answered my question on these CEOs merging to remove Trump. But with you being a Chinese fan I understand that you cannot agree openly.

What is wrong with this?

China’s attempts at stealing knowledge are at times comical as are the lengths to which they are willing to go to steal said knowledge.

This indeed looks a cold war.

To your first point, when it comes to old guys like Biden and the Clintons these old timers have been around as leaders for decades. They were there when U.S manufacturung was being shipped off to China.

Biden was already a Senator when offshoring to China began in the late 1970s. Definitely amekula pesa mingi sana over the years. (One can tell by the fact that his son was involved in similar tenders pale Ukraine.)

These guys have made their wealth selling out their country to foreign powers . That is why to them Trump has to be removed.

Also your article doesn’t point out that maybe some of these innocent students are being prepared to serve as the next generation of Apple Chinese workers.

They will earn peanuts over their lifetimes while their leaders and Apple management move from becoming billionaires to trillionaires.

And with China being a dictatorship, Apple is only too happy because the laws will never really be changed in favour of the worker. The eating and exploitation continues forever and ever…

Angalau hii …anyone who can say such things is either supremely ignorant about the CCP or a treasonous traitor who hates America and its democracy.

FLASHBACK: BIDEN CALLS FOR COMMUNIST CHINESE INFLUENCE IN “ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT, CLASSROOMS… AND BOARDROOMS”

Biden goes on to praise a ‘rising China’ as a ‘positive development’ for the United States

Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden once called for the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ties with the US to extend into “all levels of government,” classrooms, laboratories and boardrooms.

In a 2011 speech at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, Biden said the US government had already been working with Chinese communist counterparts to extend their influence into all of those fields.

“The U.S.-China relationship has also improved dramatically in the past 30 years,” Biden said at the time.
“In order to cement this robust partnership, we have to go beyond close ties between Washington and Beijing, which we’re working on every day, go beyond it to include all levels of government, go beyond it to include classrooms and laboratories, athletic fields and boardrooms.”

Elsewhere in his speech, Biden went on to praise a “rising China” as a “positive development” for the US, and claimed it would “fuel economic growth and prosperity and it will bring to the fore a new partner with whom we can meet global challenges together.”

Sichuan University, where Biden’s speech was delivered, is also operated by the CCP, which enlists student snitches to report professors or fellow students who demonstrate disloyalty to the party.

The issue of Truml being ganged up on by powerful CEOs is the same thing happening all over the world.
It is all about interests.
The CEOs interests are in China and they also get profit that they take back to their motherlands. That’s how capitalism works.
If he wants american companies to move back to the US, then that’s protectionism and state-intervened capitalism which is highly frowned upon in the business world.
The issue of moving out is a complex problem because as much as Trump can make noise, they both depend on each other.
Were you to talk of trade between the US and Kenya, we would be nothing since we depend so much on the US.
But the US and China should find ways to partner instead of threats that will never work.
