A friend of mine is in the process of building and I am the one who will supply him with building materials. In our discussion the cost of Architectural design and drawing came up (He is building residential apartments/flats). I have no idea of this since I am not conversant with this design and drawing topic. So wadau who are experts in this field kindly help me lift the lid on this matter.
@chap You better involve the experts. They will eat something small (comparatively). Typically the figures are KES 100-150 K for the hustler architects and over KES 250 K for the experienced architects. If the architects were to follow the building code regulations its typically a certain percentage (I think 6%) of the entire project cost.
Architects remuneration is guided by an act of law capped at 6% of the total project cost…kama ni apartments around id charge a flat fee of 400k depending on the scope of works…leta kazi
If I may ask, why dont architects in Kenya have creativity.
All houses hufanana. Unapata sitting room ndogo alafu kitchen kubwa na ukiingia choo it’s a long corridor with the wc at the end of the karoom. Do we really need chimneys in Kenya? Why can’t my house have a basement? What about natural light. Houses are always needing lights on hata mchana. Why stone rather than clay bricks…
our parents had poor design choices and were not exposed like us. wewe huoni hata viti wako na zingine ugly halafu nyumba imejazwa na too much unnecessary isht
nowdays with AutoCAD/archiCAD…everyone is almost becoming an architect. …with my Diploma in civil…i can still design u a good house @⅓ of cost registered architects do…i only take for approvals.
‘We’ (i don’t practice) are very very creative. Shida ni clients. They have their wants and needs. So who are we to tell them they can’t have a chimney in their bedrooms? Ours is to ensure the structure is on point and the authorities approve of the building.
