Counties Contribution to Kenya's GDP

Does this shows that the notion that Nairobi contributes 60 or 50% of Kenya,'s GDP is a fallacy. And why is Mombasa, Eldoret and Kisumu dragging their feet like that…
Below is the list of the top 10 biggest county economies and how much they contribute to Kenya’s GDP: 1. Nairobi (21.7%) 2. Nakuru (6.1%) 3. Kiambu (5.5%) 4. Mombasa (4.7%) 5. Meru (2.9%) 6. Kisumu (2.9%) 7. Nyandarua (2.6%) 8. Kakamega (2.4%) 9. Uasin Gishu (2.3%) 10. Bungoma (2.3%) Read more: https://www.tuko.co.ke/298422-new-report-shows-nairobi-county-accounts-21-kenyas-gdp.html?fbclid=IwAR03Vg2JktA6_zaR90oXkaB3rsiVB9S72-6C2ZCKJntGA8tlJiDeUCkkm7I#298422

How on earth does Nyandarua contribute more than Uasin Gishu? I come from Nyandarua and nothing happens there except farming. Something is off here.

This report provokes some serious questions?

kwani hizo waru wanapeananga bure think
alafu utapata waria kama @Sogomba Sadamkale anajidai hapa na wasomali ni makupe tu.

Sure there is a lot of food but people in Nyandarua are broke. You won’t starve to death, but forget about other joys of life. At face value, counties like Nyeri seem to have very rich people so I expected them to rank higher. The only counties I can’t argue about there are Nakuru, Mombasa and Kiambu juu kuna major economic activities there. Ol Kalao Town (Nyandarua HQ) is the size of Kirigiti, a shopping center near Kiambu town.

After handshakes

Nimeona Nyandarua pia nikashaanga. In my view Nyandarua cannot be bigger than Murang’a

What do you think happens in Uasin Gishu? Apart from Eldoret town and maize farming, what else is there

Real estate

Real estate, hospitality, horticulture, hub connecting more than 4 counties, sports investment

Nothing happens in UasinNgishu beyond Langas(hapo technical), mediheal hospital, maili tisa and chepkoilel(or shamba la ng’ombe)

Kijana ya nyumbani… na uoe

How can silent Nyandarua be ahead of Murang’a and Nyeri in economic productivity? Hata pia mimi nimeshangaa. But it could be that Nyandarua people, who don’t really drink kumikumi as much as Nyeri and Murang’a people, build their economy slowly but at a gradual pace.

Don’t make conclusions on the basis of assumptions. Nyandarua County leads the country in the production of milk, potatoes, cabbages, and peas. Production is almost all-year-round. Nyeri and Murang’a , therefore, can only dream of the earnings that flow into Nyandarua’s agricultural industry. Don’t forget that Nyandarua, is larger in size than both Nyeri and Murang’a and almost all its land is agriculturally productive save for a few wards in Ndaragwa constituency. Moreover, those who possess land in Nyandarua have larger pieces than those in Nyeri and Murang’a. Tea farming is the main economic activity in Nyeri and Murang’a but barely covers more than 60% of the land. A good chunk of the rest is covered by Coffee (two harvest seasons per year) but the industry is on its knees. Nonetheless, I agree that the richest guys in Nyeri and Murang’a are richer than those in Nyandarua, largely due to the former having invested heavily outside their counties (Primarily in Nairobi).

Nyandarua is larger and more agriculturally productive than Nyeri and Murang’a. It’s agricultural industry is also more diversified. Keep in mind, for instance, that Nyandarua leads the country in the production of Milk, potatoes, cabbages, and green peas. Almost single-handedly feeds Nairobi.

Naive view. Agriculture (farming) is the back bone of the country’s economy, generating the greatest chunk of the GDP. Nyandarua leads the country in the production of milk, potatoes, green peas, and cabbages. Go figure!!!

First off there is no way that Uasin Gishu can be more economically prosperous than Nyandarua. Here are some of the revenue earners for Nyandarua.

  1. Aberdare forest and Thompson Falls = Tourism dollas.
  2. Uasin Gishu CANNOT be compared to any Mt Kenya region in terms of hortilcuture. Nyandarua was the largest producer of Pyrethrum which is the main horticultural export of Kenya for the longest time till it was overtaken in the late 90s. Recently they house some of the largest flower farms in the country namely: Suera, Prima Rosa and Balaji
  3. Potato production. As @esenem highlights, It is the largest producer of Potatoes in Kenya and Potatoes are the 2nd most consumed produce in Kenya after Maize and fetches better prices
  4. Dairy Farming and Vegetable farming also benefit the area a lot due to proximity to a large market i.e. Nairobi
