You're not alone, he may have many weak points but Mugabe is an unsung hero for sticking it to the white man, but as long as we let the white man think for us, he'll always be the devil incarnate.

There were few people on Harare’s streets as night fell and the military movements did not appear to represent an immediate offensive action. Analysts said it was premature to talk of a coup attempt but there appeared to be a rupture between Mugabe and the military. https://reut.rs/2jrqgqC

You're missing the point by a mile. Most of us agree the man is legit AF. He is a hero, and will be remembered as such. However, that doesn't give him the right to hold on to a seat even on his deathbed. He might be the face of Zimbabwe's liberation struggle, but fact is he wasn't the only one who fought for freedom. Failing to initiate a transition process on his part shows some selfishness, because dying without a designated successor leaves a gap that must be filled, which will lead to violence , possibly civil war. He knows all this. Alafu trying to force people to accept his wife as his successor is a d*ck move, all those people who were with him in the bush and waited patiently for decades, won't just sit and watch.
Even in Kenya, KANU was crippled when Moi overlooked party veterans to appoint Uhuru as his successor. Uhunye had to burnish his CV in the next decade before people accepted him.
So just coz we're criticizing him doesn't mean we're kissing the white man's ass.

almost all founding fathers die in office, Bob is a class above his peers. He fought the white man and won, he did not leave it at that.
unlike South Africa, zimbabweans took back there land and the west hate him for this hence the sanctions. He should die in office

You can't really be praising Mugabe for "standing up to the white man and winning". Unemployment is now at over 85%, and the country has no currency worth talking about. They started using dollars (the white man's currency) and when shortages bit, they turned to bonds and coupons.

All he needed to do was redistribute land in an orderly fashion while sending the Brits home. He didn't. He went the typical African way with zero order.

Alafu unaleta clande aanze kuongea kama nyani and spending the nations loot to buy fancy goods. The sons bought Aston Martins for themselves.

This guy is a gone case. He's 93. Asante lakini enda and I hope he retires in peace.

But guy, do you know what could be a hilarious plot twist? Imagine if the army was called to town by the wife to remove Mugabe.... :)

One may characterise these events as friendly fire, the VP and the army chief not only fought alongside Bob but they also helped keep the man in power, naturally they would expect to succeed The man or at the very least have a say in the succession, pushing the VP out in favour of that woman was never going to go unchallenged.

They say its better to come in quietly and to leave with a standing ovation. In my opinion Mugabe will be remembered for having turned the food basket of Africa into a basket case country. His heroism as you put it is useless to put it mildly

Not entirely the same thing. Raul Castro had been his brother's right hand man ever since he launched the Cuban Revolution. Apart from Che Guevara, he's the only other person who could be said to be trusted by Fidel 100%. He was a commander who had great leadership skills. He was second in command in Cuba for over 4 decades. He deserved to take over from Fidel. He's said he does not intend to lead Cuba past 2018, which could show a willingness to pass on the reigns to a (hopefully) younger generation.
You cannot say any of those things about Grace Mugabe

The Zimbabwe military has just finished addressing the nation on state broadcaster ZBC. They say it is not a coup but addressing security issue and state capture by criminal elements
Zimbabwe army spokesman on TV: "This is not a military takeover of the govt, what Zimbabwe Defense Forces are doing is pacify a degenerating political, social and economic situation in our country".
