Data mining in kenya

I have i question to talkers, is data mining and harvesting in kenya legal?
I mean scraping websites like olx for example for stuff like emails, phone numbers, photos, documents and anything.
And again is there a demand for such and where can one sell the data?

following for Python reasons

i dont know about the legality but there is a huge market for valid email databases, how do you think the likes of bonfire adventures got your email address from, they even buy this info from rogue employees in ISPs (especially if the ISP is hosting your emails)

Email scraping is not good. Imagine people been bombarded by unsolicited emails.
A few weeks ago I registered a domain and the next day my gmail inbox was flooded with emails advertising services for ‘my website’ that I do not even need.

I thought my registrar had given out my email to these fuckers but a little research revealed that there are guys who are in the business of scraping the WHO.IS database for newly registered domains and sending spam emails to the owners.

I know its kind of blackhat but email marketing is one of the best form of marketing your products. If you don’t have your own email list then the best way is to outsource it. About unsolicited messages on your phone, safaricom itself does that. Being bombarded daily with phone offers you do not need.

Hey Catherine ,

This is business at it’s worst.

Avoid all crappy spammy scrappy rubbish and focus and
build a solid business that is going to be around and worth
a lot of money in 5 years from now.

There are so many other ways to get effective traffic than scraping for emails. The time, effort, and risks just are not worth it. If you are going to do email marketing, pay to send to lists that are interested and have opted in to receive what you are promoting. You will get much better results this way provided you have a good offer.
