Dilemma: Going for a job interview vs managing family business

A friend applied for a job late last year 2018 around july and the interview was delayed. She was called last week to attend after a whopping 7 months. During that time she was helping run family business and from last year till now the business under her watch has expanded and opened another store. Should she forfeit the interview and continue what she is doing or just go for it. Your advice will be passed on accordingly.

which industry is she dealing in?
whats her age?
how big is the business?
who’s the signatory? dad, her or brothers?

She graduated 2017 they run dairy products depot sort of long life milk mt kenya kinangop fresha. It is a family of three kids, she is the eldest, their second born completed form four last year and their last born ckass 4 at local primary school.

They also run a retail store, butchery and a pub too.

Her skills at the business are transferable. The business is also not proprietary, it will survive without her. She should go after the job.

Which industry is she trying to get into if she gets the job?

Entry level government job but somehow not aligned to what she studied at university.

Mwambie a follow her gut feeling
there are so many things to consider

Mambo na guts she is confused. She says she might end up bored by the same routine in government job compared to her current situation where she can juggle her mind on what best she can do to score more in the business

Government job…GO FOR IT I SAY. Asijifunge,if she pass that interview, tell her to go for it.

I would advice her aendelee na biz. There is nothing as sweet and satisfying in a job as the different challenges along the way. At the end of the day ukae down and say you did it. Sangapi utakaa kwa ofis ya gava kupangiwa duties ata kama ufisadi is the daily meal??

Tell her Uhuru has messed up the farmer, farming is no longer lucrative as it used to be. With so many dairy farmers nowadays around, let her just get employed by the government.

I like her self confidence,However for those of us who have attended over 5 Govt/Parastatal interview without earthly god-fathers,would tell, her invitation in the interview is just meant to sanitize the recruitment of already predefined candidates.
Being position no. in the interview in the public is not a sure bet to get the job.
I wish her best of luck

This country could use her midas touch in SMEs, tell her to ignore the interview

Tell her to go to the interview then weigh the reasons for applying for the job.some of us have applied for those entry level jobs na hatujawahi pata

They’re not into dairy farming but rather selling finished products from the respective dairy companies.

Makes sense.

the whole industry is about to collapse

So much milk going to waste as we speak

Short-term vs long-term. Let her attend the interview. She has business skills, achukue job akipata ni mbaya anaeza rudi kwa biz.
