Dishes for the festive season

Hi guys which gourmet dishes did you have over festivities and you really enjoyed them.

Octopus and Calimari

Roast yam and ground pepper. Demands drinking a lot of water though

Roast turkey with all the stuffing/trimmings done by someone with lots of experience, roast potatoes, brocolli, baby carrots, washed down with some rich red wine. And good company please.
Turkey is a v dry bird so it needs the trimmings to keep it moist.

Fufu?

A dry bird? A kuguru ama? The bird hit the wall rendering it dry.

What of the wet birds? Duck?

Never tried duck. What I meant is if one does not know how to stuff the turkey properly and roast it in the right temperature just forget it. And have the right sauces/accompaniments to go with it.

Mahamri, mbaazi ya nazi and mchicha for breakfast

Ongesa chapati and it is da bomb. I have had this every xmas lunch since I was born.

Looked close to this but there was a small bowl with pepper powder. Pick a piece and touch the pepper with the edge then munch. One felt quite thirsty. Rwanda

I like this hot pot stew v much, add carrots in and steam some cabbage as a side dish. A big hit in my house. Lazima ipande this xmas with the chapos too. I am going to try a new chapo recipe tomorrow. I hear if I boil some pumpkin, mash it and add it to the dough the chapos will be mambo yote. Jojina have you tried this one?

Chapati mbili moto. One is not enough na tatu haumalizi. Not for my Christmas though. For Christmas I prefer roasted goat ribs, legs na mutura yake while others are busy with stews and chapati. I’m the family goat roasting guru

Chapo pumpkin is sweet but goes bad easily. Consider how you store the leftovers

Some of the mbuzi is roasted and other goes to the kitoweo. Roast ribs, mutura etc huwa appetizer before “chakula ya xmas” is served.

I was told I just need to add a bit of the mashed pumpkin into the normal dough and carry on. Will try kesho…before I embarrass myself on xmas day.

That’s how you do it but the chapatis shelflife drops to a few hrs

I turn to a complete carnivore on Christmas

Oh I see, thenkiu for the tip. Will make just enough then coz we will also grill a lot of meat. Just that I have never seen an xmas without chapos. It just would not feel right.

That’s the point. They get spoilt easily but maybe you can refrigerate them
