drawing routes on google maps

Hi folks - I need to draw routes on google maps, something that I can do effortlessly. However, I am not sure how to color code various routes such that each route has a different route color and a label. Does anyone have a sense on how best to go about this?

First off you will need to create each route segment as a separate feature/placemark
Then create x number of style objects (ideally same number as features)
Lastly , for each feature, assign a different style url (link to a style created in step two above)

end result will be a document with multiple features (points and/or poly-lines), with each feature linked to a different style object
