Sasa feeds origi tutatoa wapi kukinuka
shida sio economy, ugali is staple food in kenya, followed closely by chapati . Shida ni competition has hit them hard especially pembe flour millers, .Unga millers even packaging itself looks so amateurish, even kitui millers package is better , only recently did they decide to change packaging after years . . they used to be market leaders but not any more , so many brands available cheaply, then the issue of quality comes in,
covid or no covid almost every home in Nairobi alone ate ugali on a daily basis,
from the article
Unga attributes its weakening financial position to restructuring costs, reduced demand for its products, increased cost of raw materials, and delayed payments from Kenya for grain supplied in support of the government-led maize subsidy programme more than three years ago.
pembe
kuna mtu aliloot 5b hapa
Mtu ya hostess cant relate unga ya peasant.
Shenji kula kisiagi bila kutusumbua
AMAIZE
Kisiagi iko na nyong’ooo.
Waluhya can’t help, they source ugali raw materials straight from the farm in kitale
You are wrong on one thing. The Potato is the 2nd most consumed crop in Kenya after maize, not wheat.
But you are right, Unga group’s problems are not as a result of the economy. Their competitors e.g. Soko are thriving
Hostess is still owned by Unga Group
They should curse the cheap Chinese Mills ubiquitous in kenya.anyone with building space and a FH for distribution can set up a maize meal as opposed to before.
The arabs and Indians operating the big five Miller’s know this and they are gradually acquiring this startups and managing/ closing them.unga should have gone that way.they are snobbish…I have never seen their trucks distributing in dukas mashinani.or having depots in these rural towns.
common man is driven by price, hostess ni 140. pembe 102, zingine even 90, hata supermarket they stock less of hostess coz they know it takes time to move unlike the rest
You’d think Kenyans no longer eat ugali
