Rigathi Gachagua did not have it easy while voting this morning, and reports indicate a manual register was used to identify him.
This was after the KIEMS kit rejected him forcing him to rub his finger against his palm.
However, this did not also work, and he had to take off his godfather’s cap to rub his finger on his head.

Roots party presidential candidate George Luchiri Wajackoyah cast his vote at Indangalasia primary school in Matungu on August 9,2022 at around 1pm.
Earlier, Wajackoya had said he would be the first presidential candidate in Kenya not to cast his vote after the KIEMS kit at Indangalasia Primary School polling station, Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County, failed to identify him.

Addressing members of the press on Tuesday, August 9 before casting his vote, Wajackoya wondered why the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) did not test the kits before the General Election and vowed not to head back to the polling station to cast his vote.

“If they tell me the KIEMS kits are not working, then they are not working, why would I go back there?” Wajackoya posed.
“This will be the first election a presidential candidate has not voted because the government has rigged him out. I’m very disappointed because I have not voted whereas all the other presidential candidates have already voted,” he added.

Raila beats DP Ruto in Aden Duale’s backyard
Thursday, August 11, 2022

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale failed to wad off Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga popularity in his own constituency, which saw Mr Odinga pull an upset on Deputy President William Ruto.

As of Thursday at 5am, Mr Odinga was leading within the Constituency with 16, 718 votes against Dr Ruto’s 7,904 votes.
Within Garissa county, Mr Odinga was still ahead with 53,431 votes against Dr Ruto’s 16,172 votes marking a major upset for one of DP Ruto’s strong allies.

According to the final results from Ms Karua’s polling station, Deputy President William Ruto who is vying for the presidential seat on the UDA ticket pulled an upset in her polling station, with Karua only delivering less than a third of the votes.

Results from form 34A posted by IEBC showed that in Mugumo Primary School in Gichugu Constituency where she voted, DP Ruto garnered 911 votes against Mr Raila Odinga’s 311 votes.

Wondering why different media houses have different tallies for the presidential election results?

Explainer:
Why media are displaying different tallies of presidential election results

Here, the Daily Nation breaks down why that might be.
Following the unprecedented move by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to allow media houses, political parties, civil society groups and the general public to do their own tallies of the August 9 General Election result, different actors have mobilised resources to undertake the massive tallying at the heart of Kenya’s democracy.

Media houses have set up their own tallying centres to count the presidential election results.
Although all are sourcing the data from the electoral commission, the figures are varying across the media houses depending on a number of factors.

These include the speed of processing the data and manpower deployed.
There is also the randomness with which the IEBC uploads the polling stations results, and how media houses then choose to download and tally it.
Given the randomness of the uploading, and therefore the downloading, the tallies by the media houses — even excluding the manpower deployed and the speed with which they key in the data for processing — there will be different tallies at any one time.
There is, however, assurance that all the results are valid and final as declared at the polling station.
In the end, they are tallying from the same pool, just from different sides of it — and will meet at the centre … in the end.
“Remember results announced at the polling stations are final and are the ones in the portal. The public portal results are the ones the commission will rely on when doing the tallying at the national tallying centre,” said IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati in his Wednesday afternoon media briefing.

But the data is the same, as per tallies from the polling stations as reported by the IEBC.

As at 7:50 pm, Deputy President William Ruto was leading in the Nation Media Group’s tally with 3,445,516 votes (51.44%) against Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition’s Raila Odinga with 3,209,400 votes (47.91%).

Roots party presidential candidate had 28,529 votes, while Agano Party’s David Mwaure Waihiga has 14,936 votes.

This represents a total of 21,714 of the 46,229 polling stations that had been counted by the NMG team, representing a total of 6,698,381 votes.

By last night, only a handful of the constituency tallies were available despite the fact that nearly all the polling station counts had been transmitted to the tallying centres.

That heralded another long wait as Mr Chebukati continued to stand firm against announcing any provisional results.

“The media houses, political parties and candidates are free to have their own parallel tally. You can count the results, but of course, do not declare. That one you leave to me,” Mr Chebukati said.

The law gives IEBC seven days from the date of elections to announce and declare the outcome.

“As the national returning officer, I am assuring you that we shall do everything to have this process concluded earliest possible,” Mr Chebukati said in the Wednesday press briefing.
