Engineers cant find jobs - ni kubaya

Irony of prestigious engineering courses as thousands of graduates remain jobless
Thursday, April 29, 2021

Truth be told, the title ‘engineer’ has a magical ring to it that attracts immense respect.
The only drawback to it is the high rate of joblessness among graduates in various fields of engineering.
This is causing a great deal of concern among parents and has recently triggered debate as to whether the once-upon-a-time prestigious course is overrated in the job market.
The irony of it all is that there is a huge shortage of engineers in the country, even though universities and other tertiary institutions are churning them out in their thousands each year.
Engineering courses still attract students who score highly in mathematics and physics, only to waste them as they “tarmac” for ages seeking employment.

Nilisema hii kitu in another thread juzi and I was quickly dismissed. Kufanya engineering you must have plain A or very strong A-. Then unaenda kuumiza akili for five years, only kuenda kubembeleza muhindi akulipe 30k tena baada ya kukufanyisha kazi kama punda!
This country is fucked up man!

Shortage of professional engineers, graduate engineers wamejazana kwa internships. Alafu kuwa professional engineer you have to intern under a fellow professional engineer who fear utatoroka uanzishe company yako uanze kucompete naye, you have to know the right people and grease the right palms, same old story

The people that graduate from our universities are half baked.

Watu wa Kumemorize Vitu ili wapite mtihani. Recently carried out interviews for 2 Electrician posts and was was shocked to see Jamaa ako na Degree ya BSc Electrical Engr. na hawezi kuterminate Mains kwa Panel. 844 fvcked too many people.

What do you expect from a country that imports 99% of everything and has zero manufacturing base? The only "engineers’ wanakafunga proper ni sisi software, computer tech and programming gurus even though the mainstream society walikataa kutupea hio title ya ‘engineer’> Project moja ya SCADA systems imetosha kulipa rent yako ya miaka tano na bado hamjaanza kuongea ata.

Kufanya Civil, mechanical, automotive or electrical engineering or other traditional engineering courses in a country that imports almost everything from china, japan or germany including the know-how and labour is just plain stupid! Utasota hadi uanze kuuza viatu ama bangi bosss

Watu hudharau watu wamesomea technical institution but that is where majority have skills.most of our graduates are textbook fixated but watu wa technical institution are hands on

Hii kitu ya kusema engineering graduates are half baked is utter nonsense.

Yes, these guys are freshly graduated, hawana hands on experience, hata wiring ya nyumba wamesahau because hio hufanywa first year. But that doesn’t in any way make them half baked. Hio wiring unasema hata doesn’t even take a minute for an electrical engineering graduate to refresh his memory baada ya kurefer kwa google.

They remain jobless because you, the people owning capital, are using your money on vanities, and are importing everything and exporting nothing. you import toothpicks, yellow slippers, underwear zina madoa doa, thermos na vikombe za plastic, mwavuli na toothbrush, ao engineers watafanya kazi wapi?

I studied electrical engineering ndio nikuwe mkubwa, driven around here and there. Sio kuchapwa shocks na wire za stima.

spot on! You can’t put it better than this for sure!

Demand and supply rule applies too. Kenya outsource 90% of engineering works to other advanced countries. Where do you expect jobs to come from?
For engineers to get jobs, Kenya must be industrialized and revolutionizing our economy to come up with inventions need to start from education itself. Change the system to encourage students to try different approaches in doing stuff. Embrace those with different school of thoughts not suspending them.
Empower research and innovations, award the best innovators not the best students in classrooms. In short, do away with colonial way of educating our students.

The world owes you nothing, especially if you are a man. You better recognize and start grinding early. Don’t think that the world owes you salary X because you studied course Y. Utanyamba nanii.

Huyo sister yako hapo na wewe you don’t operate in the same league. Kesho anaweza amka akiwa na Range Rover. Wewe lazima ujitume nanii. You are 100% responsible for your success/failure.

That’s the mentality the engineering graduates go with in the job market. They do not want to start from scratch.
A good way to start your engineering career is to seek for a Sales job in an Engineering firm, the work your way up…

This is bullshit.
It only takes a week or maximum a month for an engineering graduate to know everything huyo technician ako na years of experience anajua.
It is simple, you just go to the manufacturer’s manuals, na unasoma kama unataka kupata A ama first class. Uta understand hio machine kuliko hao technicians hujipiga kifua ati wako na hands on skills.
Comparing technicians to Engineers is a joke taken overboard

cost of production in kenya is crazy. Hiyo toothpick by the time kanjo na nema watoe zao, it will be 500 for a match box. Inshort, government doesn’t have better policies and more so look at how kenya power is deep shafting kenyans

My fren, how will you feel when a doctor is attending to you while reffering to a book? By the Time you reporting to work, we assume you have grasped the basics

Buda hakuna engineering huwa mnasoma hapo Uon ama JKUAT. Memoriziing power systems theories ama analogue electronics principles kama Chebyshev na Butterworth filters ndio upite mtihani is not engineering. Ndio maana mhindi hawezi wapea anything over 40k p.m

then why do we blame mzungu and xi jinping? sisi wenyewe tunajisabotage. then foreigner anapata nafasi ya kutuexploit,

Kwanza hakuna kitu wahindi hudharau Kama papers, they interview and rate people based on the actual work done not what you have memorized overnight

Medicine na engineering ni vitu mbili tofauti.
For engineering you do a lot of experiments before finally succeeding. Medicine akuna ku experiment because you dealing with human life.
