That is right considering the wind power especially at Loiyangalani generates most when the winds are strongest between 9pm and 6am.Coincidentally that is when we have the lowest demand(10pm to 7am).
Considering the PPA's "take or pay" model, we end up paying for excess generation.
The upside is that the Nation Control prioritised the uptake of the cheaper wind energy while reducing the hydros respectively. This in essence saved the dam waters for later generation. Indeed KPLC admit that were it not for the LTWP power, water levels would have gone very low during this past dry season.
PS:Remember the years of water rationing(2000-2002) due to low water levels in the dams? That is now forgotten....
Wouldn't they just shut down production when the demand is low the wind turbines can be locked so that power is not generated.......

Well well well niseme nini?:D What is annoying is that Talkers stay away from commenting on such threads as the Lingua will be marked first rather than the message.
Kila mtu hadi mwalimu gashui ameconcentrate kwa energy you are the one who brought this up???

That can be done though you still have to pay for deemed energy that would have been generated and availability charges. These are costs contractually binding in the PPAs.
But for hydros, geothermal you don't shut and start them up frequently. Their nature requires a start up time of upto 4 Hrs thus preferred to be online as much as possible.

Yes. Why is that shocking you? Come with your other handles that may sound familiar.
Seriously you use this everytime,,,“other handles” .....I only log in when I'm bored and for informative discussions and things like those so I wouldn't invest a lot of time creating more handles this is the only one.....do your research

Nope won't be researching. Can't be arsed.

Do Kenya hydroelectric power stations store electricity? Ama we use it up as soon as its generated? And is this efficient?

This also goes to all other power plants apart from the diesel ones because atleast you can store the diesel and use it when it gets bad.
Yes and No, it is not stored after it's created, but that does not mean it is wasted since the rate of power generation can be controlled I imagine by shutting down some of the hydro-generators or by limiting water flow depending on real time demand. Hence the power in the plant is stored in the form of water in the reservoir (aka potential energy for those who remember high school physics)
