Everything Is Merging Into One. Convergence

Smartphones have almost replaced wrist watches and desk calculators. Now most smartphones with batteries bigger than 5000mAh act as powerbanks for other devices through Reverse Charging.

Smartphones will also replace low end Point and shoot digital cameras.

Smart TVs with their wireless capabilities will replace desktops and laptops because you can still surf the web on them by using your voice or wireless keyboard or their feature rich remote control. Installing a webcam on these tvs make you speak to anyone anywhere on earth except maybe North Korea.

Driverless cars EVs. Don’t even go there.

Ndindu u might be a bonobo but you are a wise bonobo for sure

The problem with these devices is that personal privacy will be greatly compromised

Especially once home internet becomes a staple just like running water

Usiite that wise gentleman a bonobo , the guy is african and is 100% homo sapien while non africans have 2-4% of their DNA from neanderthals…so you see , @Ndindu apana bonobo , he is far from it…this is a fact …ebu nyinyi brukhengeh please decolonise your feeble brain washed minds asap

ndindu is a bonobo because even his avatar looks like a bonobo and not a dutchman from

Deep down all these devices are the same thing. What is different is what the components are assembled to make. Especially now that everyone and their mother are making ans migrating to an ARM processor, everything is merging into one indeed. Actually, it might already be done with stuff like Samsung Dex

ARM not for long… Juzi I saw Android being successfully ported to a RISC-V processor by Alibaba and with the pending Nvidia buyout, migration to open source instruction set (risc-v) is guaranteed.

RISC-V is yet to achieve the efficiency of ARM processors. I have no doubt it will catch up. They both use reduced instruction sets, therefore, have the same DNA. The way I see it, ARM and RISC-V will be the main competitors in future, which is good for all of us.

Long way to go before smart tv replace desktop and laptops. Infact it will never replace them. For starters portability. I can use my macbook in any restaurant when meeting up with clients. Tv nabeba aje sasa? The complex designing, modelling and rendering my Nvidia notebook does sioni ikifanywa na Screen ya Hisense hivi karibuni

But Smart TVs cannot replace desktops and laptops but the other way is possible. TVs are just entertainment units so how will it cater for the processing powers of computers really. TVs are so much limited in almost every way. Computers offer almost everything that a TVs offers and much more. Only smartphones come close to replacing computers but that still far from happening. Basically their design limits them highly and so they can only do the simple stuff however anything that requires significant processing power can only be accomplished by a computer, besides most programs esp in engineering built to run on powerful computer systems

For an average user that may be the case in the near future, but i ain’t no average user;

for a phone to replace my workflow, it must have:
1. At least 32 gigs of ram.
2. Must be capable to run a couple of VMs simultaneously, and support running of docker containers.
3. Must allow me to install my highly customized linux distro as the MAIN os on the device(This is not negotiable).
4.Must have a perwereful GPU capable of driving at least 3 external monitors(one on 4k, the others on 1080p).
5. At least 2 terabytes of internal storage

Well, with these kind of demands maybe in 20 years time there could be something close to that, i’m keeping my fingures crossed
