Just the other day when I was servicing my ka-toyota(now at 130000km) my mechanic advised me we change the fan belt. Later that weekend I drove upcountry (about 200km from the city) . It rained heavily that afternoon and on turning on the engine that evening for my journey back a disturbing screeching sound emanated from the bonnet. I called my mechanic and he confidently told me it was the fan belt which was making the funny noise but he assured me that I could drive back to the city safely. After getting back to the city, the screeching sound went under until yesterday when I visited a carwash. My question is, is there a relationship between the screeching sound and water? Or should I just look for a secondhand fan belt since the new ones don’t seem to work?
The screeching sound could also be coming from a broken bearing wheels on the belt system which was Most probably caused by the faulty belt jamming.
Your mechanic must have spotted the fault lines on the belt which is why he advised you to change it!
The sooner you do it the better because the next stage now will be the belt breaking as you drive and shredding the whole system pulley etc.
Shida ya mia kadhaa ends up costing you thousands and time.
The cheapest way to maintain a car is to be proactive NOT Reactive… Apenji!!!..
I can’t remember kama zinaitwa tensioners but I’m not talking about wheel bearings,im talking about those wheels that the belt runs on.
They also have some bearing mechanism and it can be broken by a belt jamming which will cause the screeching noise.
True those bearings on which the belt rotates could be faulty.I had to change on my Hilux as well. But it took me to take to Toyota Kenys to install a new fanbelt sikutaka incorrect installation by my local mech coz aliweka belt tatu not original na zote zilichapa. So when i bought an original one at close to 9k niliamua Toyota waweke wenyewe i cant risk buying an original twice.
