Alex Ferguson has refuted claims
that he left behind squad in
decline at Manchester United
upon his retirement in 2013.
The Premier League giants
struggled under the tenure of
David Moyes, who replaced the
legendary tactician and could only
last for ten months.
Similarly, Louis van Gaal has had
a difficult start to his rein at Old
Trafford but is slowly turning
things around after spending a
staggering £150m for new
players.
Ferguson, who led the Red Devils
to 13 Premier League titles, has
termed the suggestions that he
left a poor squad for his
successors as an ‘insult’.
Speaking at an event in London,
the 73-year old said: "That’s an
insult. We’d just won title by 11
points.
"We’d left young players there -
[Phil] Jones, [Chris] Smalling,
[Danny] Welbeck. There were
other players there - Van Persie,
[Nemanja] Vidic, [Michael]
Carrick and so on. Good players.
“[Chelsea striker Didier] Drogba
is 36 and he scored at Old
Trafford today. Van Persie is 32.
My best signing was Carrington.
The facilities there are first
class.”
The twenty-time English
Champions are currently eight on
the log, ten points behind leaders
Chelsea, whom they played out to
1-1 draw at Old Trafford on
Sunday.
