Georgetown University students voted overwhelmingly on Thursday in favor of creating a $27.20 tuition increase to benefit the descendants of slaves sold by the university in the 1800s. More than 66 percent of the student body voted in favor of the increase, which would be steered into a reparation fund for descendants of slaves the institution sold to pay off debts. The resolution must still be approved by the university to go into effect.

The university sold 272 slaves in 1838 to pay off debt, saving the school. Georgetown has a memorial for the slaves sold and offers admissions preference for their descendants.

The move by the university comes as politicians, notably several 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, have proposed ideas of reparations for slavery. Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) this week introduced legislation to study granting reparations to African-Americans.
Fellow 2020 candidates Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), as well as former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas), have also signaled willingness to look into the issue further.

How do you narrow down to who were descendants of slaves.

Most of you fail to realize that Africa is being discussed in world boardrooms as the next frontier.

This is just the beginning and part of the process of making peace with individuals originating from what will be the next big economic market and the last one which will ultimately decide who is the global economic superpower in decades to come.

I think in this case its more like the school is trying to absolve itself from being labelled as a school that sold slaves. In todays age, its viewed as repugnant and the fact can easily be used against them.

That’s a step in the right direction, let’s see what the university will decide.

At work there’s a group of my colleagues, men, who enjoy talking about stocks and investments during downtime. They’re really good at multiplying money, rich white guys. Recently one of them was saying how Africa is the hottest thing right now and how he’s aligning his portfolio to reflect his belief. Idk why but it felt so good inside to hear people saying nice things about Africa. Suddenly I was the “expert” in the group quashing some stereotypes they had about home. To those who thought life starts and ends with America, they were shocked at how the rest of the world was catching up fast. It felt good bana.

I used to read your threads when your titles were genuine. Nowadays, I usually assume every thread you post here is about trump. Especially since you started using fake headlines to increase readership. I even complained to @admin akaniambia niku-ignore. Problem ni ati mimi siwesi ignore mtu yeyote apa ktalk. But I resolved not to open your threads.

I have also met some folks here. When I draw some pictures of Nairobi, esp my favorite that shows a lion lazying in its natural habitat with the city in the background, they are shocked. I tell them we keep animals in their own reserved natural habitats, while they keep them in zoos. And then the SGR blending seamlessly in the background.

Beautiful, your words of hope about Africa really inspire me. Let’s go home and be the change we want to see..

they will have to pay up in trillions for full reparation ..but i dont think monetary reparations would yield much if not inflation or even absolve the white man for slavery

Majority of white guys are still enjoying stolen wealth (slavely) but they don't realise it. It boosted their great grandfathers who laid a rich foundation for them

I don't know what you are claiming but it doesn't explain your calling @Amused out on a thread he had earlier posted. The thread was entitled "The US students who want to pay slavery descendants", so even if you had not opened it, the gist was right there on the header.

Majority of White people's ancestors were not there during the slavery era.
Last i checked slavery was largely a Southern enterprise.
Most Southerners are of pure British,Scottish and Scotch-Irish(a small number) descent.
The number of Americans of purely British descent is around 27 million(Around 70 million however have at least 1 British ancestor. This includes a quarter of Blacks) and that includes those in New England(who mostly never had slaves. That is the Whitest part of America) and Utah(No slaves either).
This is far less than the number of Americans who are of purely German Ancestry(65 million) or Irish(33 million).
Now last I checked the Germans largely ooposed slavery and instead relied on family for labor(that is why the Midwest does not have any small towns with Black people. You have to go to a large city like Detroit to see a Black person. Not Mars, Iowa) and many Irish were actually slaves themselves.
After slavery ended in 1865 more than 30 million Europeans moved to the US.
24 million between 1890 and 1924.
Why should say an Estonian American who was fleeing the Czars pay for slavery???
Why should an Italian American pay for an event that their ancestors were not privy to(In fact they used to lynch Italians in the South).
Why should a Russian American who arrived after the end of the USSR pay for slavery again???
Mind you there are Hispanic Whites from Brazil and Argentina who tick Non Hispanic because they are like The Germans of Brazil or the Welsh from Argentina.
How does American slavery concern them???
This.
Is
Nonsense.
The rest of the world had slavery.
We got over it.
These guys are still bitching about it when they were amongst the first to be freed.
