This was in the Nairobian Newspaper yesterday. For the sake of those who are not Bukusus and the uncircumcised boys like @uwesmake let me put the record straight.
Bukusus have eight age sets which they call Sisingilo. Each age set is divided into six two year pieces with each two year piece called ebololi(You should have noticed that we circumcise our boys in the August of every even year). From this, one age set is 12 years. Now, it is “bad” for one to live through all the age sets to an extend that a new his age set starts when he is alive. That means that a man has lived through eight twelve year age sets=96 years. Now consider that Bukusus don’t circumcise small kids, the youngest would be eleven years, add that to 96 years and we are talking about a man living for over 107 years. One of our prophets called Maina wa Nalukale foresaw the rare incidences of men living beyond the 107 years and set a rule of postponing the naming of a new age if the old generation is till alive.
SO LET IT BE KNOWN THAT WE DON’T KILL OUR OLD MEN WHEN THEY LIVE BEYOND 100 YEARS, WE POSTPONE THE NAMING OF A NEW AGE SET.

This is the reason i said i’ll not a woman from western kenya.Inluding luhya.kisii,luo,bukusu or any other tribe from that place.Their traditions freak me out.
