The government has directed recruitment agencies to pay Kshs1.5 million as a security deposit for every Kenyan citizen hired in Saudi Arabia.
This was announced by Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani who was speaking at the Ministry headquarters after signing a deal with top Saudi Arabia government officials.
The decision is expected to guarantee the safety of Kenyans nationals working in the middle east country.
He stated that all the agencies have already been vetted to safeguard Kenyan workers.
According to the CS, only 100 agencies made it through the vetting.
“We already have 20,000 people working in Saudi Arabia and believe more than 100,000 will be employed in a few years to come now that we guarantee safety,” he announced. Many stories have emerged about Kenyans being mistreated in Saudi Arabia.
Most of them who are hired as domestic workers narrated that their passports are often confiscated by their employers. They also undergo physical abuse as well as mental anguish as they are usually unable to travel back home. Their mistreatment abroad has also sparked protests calling for the government’s intervention.

The maids earn an average of about 30,000Kes. The whole process of taking a maid to middle East from the sponsor’s end costs about 100k upwards.
Now fit in this 1.5m and nothing makes sense .

They will not tell you this but the Kenyans who work for Arabs are screamed at and insulted every single day by their employers. They’re treated like trash. They’re made to eat leftovers. Not the leftovers from the pots and pans. Leftovers from the plates of Arabs.
Doesn’t make sense. I think the article refers to the general security deposit agencies pay, not per client. It used to be 750k per agency but now revised to 1.5m, to include the high risk Saudi
