Ground clearance

Hi guys,
I bought 2013 Toyota fielder(new shape),1.5cc,2WD. I would like to improve the ground clearance and in my small research i learnt there’s alot of things to consider which is abit confusing for first time car owner. I want to try heavy duty coil springs and the three i came across vary in prices, colours and makes i.e kings coils,OBK springs (dark blue, yellow) and rob’s Magic. Yellow obk are pricey compared to dark blue ones. Also asked few mechanics and they discourage me from buying new coil springs insisting i should go for xjapan ones. Ati they remove the existing coil spring and do matching with bigger springs. Soo confusing since when you visit monroe, auto xpress & impalla they ask for chassis no. Which means there’s some specification to be meet. What’s best for me? Considering the fact I’ll be using the car in town as taxi.

Thanks,
Dullu

Ex- Japan heavy duty coil springs work well. I’ve had mine (all four) for the last four years na zime serve poa. It’s a 7 seater and if I carry full capacity gari haiendi down uko nyuma. Damage- 2K each.

OBK are made in Japan. They ask for chassis number coz those springs are rolled in a specific way so that they take the shape of the shape of the shock seat. For them to work better than what you have in the car, they need to be fatter and have an extra coil compared to the current.

Where did you fit them?

Okb vary in colours and prices, yellow ones from monroe are costly and the blue ones are abit cheaper. Which is which now.

Thats for the quotes, ningegongwa for real.

I remember nikisumbuka na kadudu kangu ivo kila mechanic ananiambia story different… I settled with kubadilisha mguu ya 15 nieke ya 16… coil springs and shocks kufanya hesabu nikaona inakula like 100k… kaubwa nilikaeka spacers nikasema fuck stability

Stability is all about center of gravity (COG). If you change to bigger wheels you raise COG, if you put firmer shocks and coils they will maintain your ground clearance when you load but make your ride uncomfortable. Spacers are cheap but make a car look like a giraffe when not loaded

Check out VDE shock absorbers on fb. Avoid ex Japan shocks/springs. Mechs want to keep their jobs because dealers fix new shocks for free.
