Guka's Take: Why the On-Going Crackdown MUST Continue

When the gavament shut-down three main TV stations, almost the entire country breathed a sigh of relief. We were all tired of the biased, prejudiced talking heads - who rotated from station to station - spewing ethnic hatred and propaganda couched as informed analyses.

We were tired of the spin in news that made our beautiful country sound like Syria or Libya - a doomed enterprise.

Which is why a majority of us - sane, right-thinking Kenyans whether in Nasa or Jubilee - welcome the current crackdown on fake news, indiscipline, tribal and ethnic war-mongering, etc etc etc.

The TV stations must stay shut. And Kenyans are so OK with it you won’t hear complains!

The fact is media freedom must come with media responsibility. All rights guaranteed in the Constitution, including the rights of the media, must be exercised in a way that they do not impinge on the rights of others or endanger the survival of the nation.

The Kenyan media has in particular failed to observe this basic tenet. It has given platform to the likes of Miguna, for instance, to call for the rape of Nairobi Women representative, and Babu Owino to call the president the son of a dog. Where in the world does a responsible media allow that to happen? If CNN and BBC are our standards, are these kind of things allowed there?

Citing its freedom to broadcast, the Kenyan media has in addition failed to observe even the basic rules and regulations it has set ITSELF. These include a few seconds, say 30, delay of live transmissions to enable editing out of unsuitable material. So today you have all manner of idiots saying all manner of trash on live TV. Where does that happen?

The gavament must move with similar determination as it did with the media to bring discipline and order in other sectors.

The evil society for one must be tamed, and individuals who think they are a law unto themselves must be cut down to size.

It is instructive, for instance that in most of the West, which prides itself as the beacon of democracy, that NGOs that are funded by foreign donors have to register as ‘foreign agents’. Australia just passed a law on this.

Only in ‘weak’ countries like Kenya are we expected to put up with all manner of shit dished by the likes of Wainaina, Kegoro, Kiai, etc etc who are funded by foreign entities. It is as if we Africans should forever accept to be the chattel of their foreign masters. First it was slavery, then colonialism and now neo-colonialism using NGOs.

This must end, one way or the other.

Finally, let me end with Raila Amolo Odinga, being an example of how the gavament should deal with recalcitrant individuals.

To cure this country once and for all of its stupidity, Raila must be arrested, prosecuted and jailed for committing high treason. Nobody should be above the law. What will happen, you ask.

Take a map of Kenya.

Nothing will happen in Central or Eastern province. Nothing will happen in North Eastern province. Nothing much will happen in the Rift Valley. That’s about 70% of Kenya.

Shit will hit the fan in Nyanza and parts of Western, Nairobi and Coast provinces. Hundreds will be shot. Then after two weeks, everybody will be tired of dying and go back to their lives.

Raila embodies all that is wrong with Kenya. An egocentric megalomaniac with a die-hard tribal following he is Bokassa, Idi Amin and Machar all rolled into one. To cure the country of his ilk, he must be cut down to size - when you get rid of the alpha baboon or hyena, the rest scatter.

One final word.

A gavament MUST NEVER BE AFRAID TO KILL - ALL GAVAMENTS DO FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER. Bush killed 5,000 American kids for Saddam’s oil, for instance. The Gavament of Kenya must realise that governance and leadership is not a beauty pageant - it is a serious business where all organs of state must pursue only one agenda - the preservation and promotion of the nation-state.

All those that threaten this - media, politicians, individuals, whatever, - must be crushed like rats and be disposed off on the rubbish heap of history.

Kenya is greater than any individual - Raila, Uhuru, Ruto, You or Me. Whoever threatens the survival of the majority must be dealt with with extreme prejudice.

Shut up old cunt

Summarized… “I am from central so I shut my brain off whenever the president/kinsman does something foolish”

Well stated.

Hi son. Hope you are well?

He he he he he he! Coomernina!:D:D:D:D:D

afadhali Pyongyang .

Is this media shutdown a rumour? Kwangu ni Gikuyu TV most of the time thanks to first lady. If I must watch news I have Ebru TV, K24 TV and KBC. 95% of my limited TV viewing experience is taken up with Documentary, Sci-Fi and Sports.

Could you be confirming Miguna’s fate?

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D!

the extent of saying that I am celebrating the trials the industry is going through yet the media made me. What a pathetic, pedestrian argument. The media never made me. God did. Hard work did. Passion did. I was sacked at NMG in 2002 (summary dismissal) after I differed with the NMG management. The bone of contention was a letter I had written to His Highness the Aga Khan and the NMG board over poor pay of journalists and corruption in the media.

I was the Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Journalists but the management was treating me like a mere employee and threatening me with a sack. I was asked to withdraw the letter or be sacked. I chose to be jobless than go against my values. When I left Nation Centre in February 2002 many journalists celebrated. Few said a word in my defense. Many were used by media owners to tarnish my name. Ever since the media has tried to destroy me at every turn but God has protected me.

To say that we have unprofessional media in Kenya is an understatement. We have a rogue media and self conceited, corrupt journalists who malign people and destroy families, careers and reputations. The day of reckoning will come for them too. And when they are sacked by the media owners they are now defending with their lives, they will realise that they don’t own the media houses. They are simply employees. TV stations are off air and people don’t miss them because for far too long media houses lost professionalism. They air obscene content and defy regulation. They malign people daily. They play God with their airtime and space. I meet people everyday who are hurting because of the media.

I get complaints about corrupt journalists who cannot cover an event unless they are bribed. I get complaints from parents whose kids are being corrupted by bad content and premature exposure to adult content. The media in Kenya is corrupt, unprofessional and negative. Development stories don’t matter to them. Our rich cultural heritage is never given the prominence it deserves. The beauty of our country and our positive values don’t get prominence. It’s negative politics, the sideshows and non-issues that get prominence. It’s the obscene, the negative and the weird stuff that is covered. That kind of media is unnecessary. Sooner rather than later the media will know that press freedom is not absolute.

Let us paraphrase it, ‘Central people and some Kenyans shut their brains off for 24years yet the President was not their kinsman. Man Toro did extremely foolish stuff. Central and those Kenyans never found a reason to cause chaos only focused on what was of importance i.e. making a life. These Kenyans relied on the ballot term after term. They got there;Moi was asked to quietly conceded and leave and Kenya moved on’.

Why a section extreme west of Nairobi feels they are the inventors of chaos and have more rights than others I don’t know.

Why a bunch of small political boys think they are tougher than a government I do not know.

They however want us to believe that have suddenly seen the light like Saul and they have been bestowed with leadership skills and wisdom akin to that of Solomon yet point man and the 3 concubines are beneficiaries and perpetrators of corruption.

21st century no one cares about what moi did… if you do something stupid you should be called out regardless of tribe

What Mutua has written here is Gospel truth. The media has tried to destroy him at every turn because he dared contact ‘god’ directly. This was at time Wangethi Mwangi was having carnal knowledge with interns at his office during lunchhour - sex-for-pay was the game at NMG.

Call out anyone and everyone but do it with maturity. Militancy has no space in the 21st century.

Guka nyua ucuru uhorere. Good points!!

How many stations are there and how many have been shut? As a %age would that translate to media emasculation as some people want us to believe?
Whether we support the closure or not should not blind our eyes to what we’re seeing. With the skewed presentation of “facts” by the media, I’m sure there would be tension and mayhem right from the time of “swearing” till now.
And the most frightening lesson from the closure of the tv stations… A SIGNIFICANT MAJORITY ARE NOT EVEN AWARE THAT THE STATIONS ARE CLOSED!
About Miguna?
Sincerely speaking, nobody appears to be missing him so much.
Neither his pResident nor his foot soldiers.
Indeed, his death would be welcomed since it would serve to provide a platform for galvanising the pawns.

Baite Tv nikiangalia ‘operation okolea Makena’ na Kawira Mwangaza…Murungu amurathime bwega.

Media has ruled .ke since 2003. They were supposed to vacate office in 2013 lakini wakakatalia kama Mugambe. They are now…
