Police were on Saturday, January 9, forced to lob teargas after residents disrupted ongoing Jubilee nominations for Huruma ward, Uasin Gishu County.

A section of Jubilee members in the ward wanted the exercise halted after they were blocked from voting because their names were missing in the register.
The unrest lasted a couple of hours, forcing the police to use teargas to disperse them.
Voters described the nomination exercise as a sham adding that they were compromised due to the irregularities that were witnessed.

"Already the nomination is compromised. How can you tell a voter their name is missing from the list to come with a voters’ card?
“Voters can be imported from elsewhere and given voting cards sourced from scammers,” Hussein Kassim, a voter who was turned away stated.

The Jubilee Presiding officer for MV Patel polling station Caroline Jepkoech stated that they were able to contain the situation.
"We are witnessing some form of incitement that resulted in the chaos. The register we use for the nomination was sourced from the IEBC thus issues of voters missing on the list should not arise,” she noted.
The aspirants seeking the party ticket are Lucy Wangari, Lucya Ngendo and Francis Njoroge.
The electoral commission by-election is scheduled to be held on March 4, 2021.
More than 15 aspirants have lined up for the Huruma Ward seat that was left vacant following the death of MCA Peter Chomba.
