Heads Up - jumia.co.ke

If you plan to buy anything on Jumia you best hope to god that you don’t get a wrong or faulty item delivered. Or that the item fails shortly afterwards. Jumia will never replace a product. They will attempt to repair but never replace. If pushed, they will offer a voucher of same amount. If you insist on your cash back then be prepared to wait forever.

I think Jumia customer care reps burst into laughter every time someone calls in asking for a refund. An online vendor cancelling orders after days and promising refunds that never happen is a hairy dicc move.

Side note: E-commerce is growing fast in Kenya and it’s about time it’s regulated. Online vendors should be compelled by law to replace bad products, or products that get damaged during shipping. They should be required to display customer reviews - maybe edit them grammatically but not change the message.

If a business can engage in misleading advertising to millions of people, they are capable of much worse when dealing with individuals.

Overseas manufacturer----->Kenyan vendor------>Jumia

1.Importation delays
2.Jumia does not verify the quality of the items on offer by Kenyan vendors
3.Most Kenya vendors sell fake/defective items
4.Most online vendors wanatumanga delivery by bodas (we all know what most of these guys do on the road)

Sinunui online unless the item is being delivered same day and i pay cash on delivery, otherwise issa throw

Problem is if you leave a review saying an item is a fake it is unlikely to ever get published.

Inakuanga ni pay after delivery, which pia lazma niconfirm burungo iko sawa, kama sio ivyo acha ibaki

Kuna https://www.mybigorder.com/ naonaga kuna option ya collect at shop where you go asses the object at the shop of origin kama hutaki delivery.

Not on all items. There are some items that are strictly prepay.

Good to know… Will check them out.

Ndo maana ni poa kukaa na alternatives, kuna mnigga anajiita @syndicate atakuuzia zenye ziko available locally as for imports deal na @incognitus, they are all individuals chances of them messing are zero juu ya kumaintain their brand, sio kama kampuni

I do that myself without being complled by law. That way I have to check and recheck the items before I deliver, make sure the items are packaged like an aeroplane’s blackbox, and only sell items with a warranty.

When I bought a phone that was not in stock, they did refund my money.

The issues with warranty in Kenya is with all retailers: FoneExpress, Naivacom, everywhere. Its a African distribution problem.

Maybe I’m unlucky. Went to FB to ask why a refund takes weeks and found a long queue of people with exactly the same problem. Almost pointless to complain there.

For some time Jumia gave us( Brick and mortar guys) a real scare. Not anymore, we will continue to thrive for the foreseeable future.
