Hodan Nalayeh, a Somali-Canadian journalist
Hodan Nalayeh, a Somali-Canadian journalist who built a career telling uplifting stories of the Somali community, has died in a hotel attack in Somalia, according to local media.

Nalayeh and her husband, Farid Jama Suleiman, were among 10 people killed after gunmen stormed the Asasey Hotel in the port city of Kismayo, according to Mogadishu-based independent radio station Radio Dalsan.
Somalia's al-Shabab Islamic rebels claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials said the death toll could rise as fighting continues between hotel security and the extremist gunmen.
Global Affairs has not confirmed any Canadian deaths but said it is aware of the incident and is working to get more information.
Nalayeh, a mother of two boys, was born in Somalia and spent the majority of her life in Canada, where she developed her career as a journalist. She lived in Alberta before moving to Toronto and started her own web-based video production company, Integration TV, which provided content to Somali viewers in Canada and around the world.
After reports broke of her death, her YouTube channel was flooded with comments of condolences from viewers. Many thanked her for her inspiring coverage.
Nalayeh’s reporting often profiled trailblazing Somalis and people with heartwarming stories, such as

a group of female entrepreneurs or a single mother of five who adopted a toddler. Once, she interviewed former Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne for Integration TV.

Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath said she was saddened to learn of Nalayeh’s death.
"I am so sad and shocked to learn of the tragic death of @HodanTV and her husband Farid in a terrorist attack, along with other victims of this hate-fuelled violence," Horwath said on Twitter.
"Hodan's endless positivity and her love for people was inspiring."
Earlier this week, she tweeted an image of a sunset over the ocean near Kismayo.
“People save all their lives to have a retirement b the beach, yet, we have plenty of it and cannot see its value. Let’s appreciate the beautiful blessings we have,” she tweeted.

She was expectant too. More than 15 innocent people have lost their lives with around 50 seriously injured .
We shouldn't forget Jubaland elections are around the corner. Someone is using the AS to intimidate the Jubaland administration led by Ahmed "Blacky" Madoobe who is supported by Kenya. Let Kenya not relent in its efforts to make Jubaland a stable ,functioning state and also get Madoobe reelected....The idiots in Villa Somalia should not have their way.

When you don't have schools(don't confuse with madrassas) to impact some formal education on young ones and you go ahead and inspire them with presents such as these below during Ramadhan celebration, hiyo nchi iko na future kweli? image.jpeg

end game is the elections and the marehan clan supremacy battle of Jubaland.
It's in our interest to have hundreds of mini- states in Somalia ..divide them kabisa , let each sub-clan/clan have its state...
Madoobe has done good in Jubaland

This attack was meant to show President Madoobe has failed in Jubaland. However its backfiring on them. Everyone knows the clans in gedo support alshabab, fund them and provide fighters. They in turn want their own candidate to win elections. This attack has hurt the consciousness of Kismayo and reminded them how bad they lived under alshabab 8 years ago. So the vote is swinging back to President Madoobe who they hope he can now pacify north Jubaland has he has done the south.

That's said this regional government and state are the only hope to defeat alshabab. Mogadishu pretends to fight them with token wins by somali national army. The Mogadishu government has zero priority in fight them. They are busy eating, sleeping, chewing miraa and doing oil deals to fight alshabab. Just this week alshabab selected its own mayor of Mogadishu. Their capital city has a rival terrorist mayor. Its a big joke.

Majority of Somalis under the age of 30 have no formal education or any idea what law and order (don't mention sharia law) is, they were inspired by the likes of Farrah Aidid, Hersi Morgan etc who had only their stomachs to mind. Now that these under 30s have their own families imagine the kind of generation they are bringing up. Somali as a society went back to 18th century except for the population in diaspora.
