Excuse my ignorance kidogo wakubwa. One of my favourite TV channels is Al Jazeera and I watch the channel many times. I really don’t see many adverts, mi uona moja tu ya Qatar airways na ni once tu in a blue moon. Ebu niambieni hizi media umake doo aje now that I don’t see many adverts.

Now this makes a lot of sense. So it’s owned by the govt of Qatar hence state funding?
Something like that… That’s why the views aired by them especially regarding Yemen issues rubs the other gulf states the wrong way…
Al Jazeera Media Network has stated that they are editorially independent of the government of Qatar as the network is funded through loans and grants rather than government subsidies. Critics have accused Al Jazeera of being a propaganda outlet for the Qatari government. The network is sometimes perceived to have mainly Islamist perspectives, promoting the Muslim Brotherhood, and having a pro-Sunni and an anti-Shia bias in its reporting of regional issues. However, Al Jazeera insists it covers all sides of a debate; it says it presents Israel’s view, Iran’s view and even aired videos released by Osama bin Laden.
According to The Atlantic magazine, Al Jazeera presents a far more moderate, Westernized face than Islamic jihadism or rigid Sunni orthodoxy, and though the network has been criticized as “an ‘Islamist’ stalking horse” it actually features “very little specifically religious content in its broadcasts”.
It has the potential of being completely independent of western media biasness, I can live with that
It’s funded by the Qatari government and is a powerful foreign policy tool. They use it influence and shape opinion in the Arab world and beyond.

But I like it. I find them objective and independent many times. And I now agree somehow that my views of global affairs are shaped by Qatar.

They have been banned from broadcasting any “bad” news from where they are based…Qatar
Al Jazeera is a fierce critic of Israel
It has lots and lots of heavily biased news features against Israel…For instance,what the feature “THE WAR IN OCTOBER”…never once do they mention arab casualties like they do for Israel casualties
The only country where it’s journalists operate freely is turkey and Israel
I once told some buddies in govt that they need to fully fund KBC same way the British govt funds BBC and that it should not be commercial-oriented. That way, the govt will be able to control its narrative. They laughed me out of town.
BBC is funded by the British public through TV licenses.
