Humanity of God

@Atheismo 's daily atheist thread is hitting a nerve among the religious in the village and it gets one thinking. One can read the post in jest as some of us do, and others catch feelings with comments such as “You shall be struck down for not believing…or what you are saying”.
So here is the question:
Why is God so loving that He would literally do nothing as His Son is being whipped and crucified and yet he would set a villager’s ass on fire for making a joke?
Why do we ascribe very human attributes such as anger or jealousy, to an entity who is greater than all these things and further more these are attributes that directly link to sin (see the seven deadly sins)?
Why should God be angry at the memes about Him? @Koolibah if i called you a retard, you may probably laugh and walk it off. But if I were to stand shouting at the sky the same, invoking His name, its blasphemy? Shouldnt He be “bigger” than that?
Basically, why is He so petty?..or come of as such from what is in the Good Book?
@Koolibah @Transformer @Purr_27 and anyone else please help me understand this.

God is watching and he forgives

I have come to learn that those who claim to know god actually know nothing bout him/her/it… Thats why they characterize god as a humans who gets angry, gets jealous,n shit…

When an atheist questions these attributes automatically it becomes blasphemy…

Your questions are the answers. The fact that nobody has been struck down for blaspheming God clearly points that God is not man.

Take note, however, that God is not man that He should be mocked. Whatever you sow is what you reap, either in this life or in the life to come.

Sodom and Gomorrah.

Noah’s Flood

Onan

e.t.c

He even calls himself a jealous god.

Right now there is an ongoing Polio vacation campaign and the Catholic church is busy telling people not to get their children vaccinated. Polio is an economic burden that weighs heavily on the taxpayer.

What about them?

Elaborate please because the last time I checked The Catholic church is a religious (christian) organization.

Add Herod to that list…

Acts 12:23
Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died.

I don’t not understand this desire guys have for mocking other people’s gods, just because you are an atheist or whatever else gives you no right to go about mocking my God or another villager’s God, my God is my God and your God is your God.

I think you are asking the wrong persons. I dont believe there’s anyone who knows God so well as to answer questions about him from another mortal human

That aside, you stand at the mountain top and “abuse” God or call him names. And yeah, I doubt you will be struck by lightening. Many people, musicians to be precise mock God but floods or fire never hit them. God aint that petty. But as his word says, no sin goes unpunished.

God is a mystery, and only that who believes has an opportunity to know him…PERSONALLY.

I wonder why this atheists are quick to mock God and Christianity and they will tread carefully when it comes to Islam… mhhhh… I wonder…

I think it’s because the atheists in this particular village are more conversant with the christianity than they are with Islam.

and noone so far has even attempted to answer my questions besides @trish and even she seems to concede that not there no real way of knowing what why he would “feel” as we(humans) do. The Bible seems to point to the fact that blasphemy would hurt God’s feelings, if it invokes such terrible punishment.
Understand that I’m not just trying to stir up things for the sake of things, Im trying to get a nuanced discussion going here into the philosophy/theology of the Bible and God. Something I believe is healthy.

Hey @nairobilay …We were having a discussion on how in the O.T when Moses married an Ethiopian(Cushite), Aaron and Miriam
his siblings dissaproved and were talking about him…It angered God that he came down in a cloud and met them at the tent(Numbers 1:12)…
then God was so Angry he struck Miriam with Leprosy for 7 days
-When Sodom and Gomorrah happened he killed all of those people

  • Story of Elisha with the children, who were torn by bears after mocking him

Come to today…immorality makes Sodom and Gomorrah look like nothing …
Atheism -belief of there are no god/deities nothing wrong with that , till atheism bcomes the focus of mocking
Christianity…and God does not come and destroy people…

Simple In the O.T God as you said seemed Petty and controlling , no free will …he wants things done in a certain way if not you will feel his wrath…Right?

From the N.T times to today …there’s compassion , free will to serve God or not all because of Jesus …and the pain he endured…
To your Q, Is God Jelous ?Yes
Can you comprehend and understand him ? NO , he is beyond your grasping …at the end GOD IS GOD ,

What you quote is very conflicting my dear. You make it out to be the God of the OT is not the same of the NT. And if he is capable of being easily angered and gets jealous, that surely is a path to sin, and yet the first thing we are taught is that GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME AND ALL THE TIME? GOD IS GOOD.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-5). However, if He is indeed love in its purest form, He seems very easily angered and very self-seeking (in terms of wanting to praised and worshipped constantly). And he very much keeps a record of wrongs, otherwise what is the Book of Life if not an account of your deeds? and judgement day is surely a reckoning of all our wrong doings?

Atheism is NOT a belief system it’s a lack of belief in the supernatural. Religious people have an inherent task of spreading their religion which is very annoying and insulting. Religion is used to do bad things or support them. A good example is ISIS and the Catholic church being against Polio vaccination. Thees things directly affect us. If people practiced their religion without bothering others them they wouldn’t be mocked.

@nairobilay, please note that Jesus Christ came to this world to save them (us, yani sisi) from what you seem to know very well, that why things are different now compared to the OT, judgement will be done during His return, so cool down, all the naughty things you do will not be forgotten unless you repent. In summary, judgement was instant in the OT but during the current days, we live in His Grace, He will always give a 2nd, 3rd, 4th,… chance to accknowldeg who he is and repent your sins.

"You must not misuse the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
Exodus 20:7

Exodus 34:14
You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.
( This means that God loves you so much and values you a lot even if you don’t take notice of him. And yes He is a self seeking God. He wants to be the center of your life. To Seek Him only. Hence seek Ye first the Kingdom of God. And all this other early things shall be added unto you.)

To this fact, He loved you so much that He wanted you to be with Him after this life

John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Galatians 6:7
Don’t be misled–you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.

-He is the same as always…from the beginning till end , however in the New testament there is this brigde of compassion , mercy and love …and tolerance
due to the love of the Son .

No God does not put a record of wrongs as you are trying to put across …but He gives you life and a person is an extension of Himself through creation …
And there is a way He wants you to live ,and if you fail due to imperfection …He will always forgive …but if you choose not to He will surely judge you
since life is His not yours
