Ideas for new App

Hi guys, I have some little money which I would like to pump into the development of a new app, I plan to offer it for free to Kenyans as long as I get many users as possible. I don’t plan to monetize it any time soon directly with users, maybe with advertisers later but not soon.

The big question is, is there a gap, is there anything I can offer the average Nairobian millennial or younger who owns a smartphone? I have thought about dating app, but no already too many out there. I personally would love to use one of these if it was available and reliable: Mama mboga market place and Mechanics/Fundi market place.

Any ideas, something you would personally use?

My motivation is to help put Kenya on the technology map, we have the talent yet we are still largely relying on foreign-developed apps, why? especially the chatting, dating space.

kwanza toa hiyo option ya monetizing through ads then tuanze tena

Nafuatilia tuu

I have an idea but it entails working with the government, but bado ni app.

Unakuja K-Talk and y first line is “hi guys” …unaambia hawa majangili “hi guys” huku ni ma ordinarry wamejaa banae. 'Hio hi guys yako unawea pata ghasia fulani kwa inbox yako alafu kidogo kidogo uchunishwe sumuma banae…hapa salimia watu na niaje ma ghasia…sio hi guys

Yeah, I would like to steer away from bureaucracy since I don’t have anyone to push for me over there but share it you don’t mind

I would never put annoying ads on an app, I was thinking more of sponsored content or selling the usage data (completely anonymized obviously e.g the average age of people who buy this or that, don’t worry, everyone does it already)

He he, good point brathe, now bring ideas

Develop an app where people can recover lost documents, id, atms, etc. Lets say i pick ur lost id at the bus stop…being a good samaritan will post your name and where you can get it, and you before replacing it will check on maybe the “lost and found section” in the app before going to huduma centre.

Yeah, that would definitely be useful. What are the risks of operating such a service though, I suspect some criminals can take advantage somehow and do identify theft in some way.

But may be the lost and found documents can be hidden from public, all you do is post your details and we tell you if we have it in the database

The best idea would be to take advantage of government resources because it is illegal for an individual to handle other peoples documents. And to avoid lawsuits from unscrupulous kenyans. Approach the relevant ministry with a proposal to maybe employ like 2 people per county who go around police stations recording lost documents in each station and leaving it there. So when someone checks the app or maybe via sms at maybe 10bob per sms with their id no. or name…a reply gets back to them as to which police station the documents are. Unaona aje hiyo?

Sounds smart but I just don’t have the energy to deal with gava at this moment

I replied on your thread

Lynk.co.ke are doing something about fundis and blue collar professionals.

Twiga Foods got the Mama mbogas and vendors I guess…

I think there’s still opportunity to setup a very Kenyan TaskRabbit/Craigslist/Errands service… but it has to the elusive “oomph” to succeed.

Idea: Online driving school with instructional videos… for the busy people who can’t make it to the classroom.
